Tips & Tricks are too blasé for me that is why we do Hints & Hacks. Walls are sometimes the first thing we do when starting a project. They do define projects like nothing else. But do you know what they are made of? Let’s break down the wall’s structure, how they interact with each other, how they interact with floors and roofs.

The calendar invite says this is for Doors and Windows, not Walls. Since the June session is also listed as Walls, I assume this one is for Doors and Windows.

Question regarding the Align tool with Walls. I am seeing the initial alignment options as Exterior Face, Centerline or Interior Face, not Location Line (unless the Location Line happens to be at one of those, of course). If I hit the Tab key, then I can choose either face of any component, or the centerline of the core. Was the exterior face of core in your example Wall Type at or close to the Wall Centerline? Or am I doing something wrong?

Understood. In the presentation (started watching the video today), you demonstrated using the Align tool on the Wall, and indicated that the initial choices for alignment were at the faces of the overall Wall or at the Location Line (which will be one of the options shown in your image). In a test model, I was seeing the initial choices as being the faces of the overall Wall and the centerline of the overall Wall.

In the Wall Type I was using, the Location Line was set to Core Face: Exterior, which did not fall at the overall Wall centerline. I had to select the Tab key to get the Align tool to allow me to select Core Face: Exterior.

Since it looks like the initial choices for the Wall in the video were faces of overall Wall and the Core Face: Exterior (to which the Location Line was set), I was wondering if your Wall just happened to have the Core Face: Exterior fall on the Wall's centerline (or sufficiently close that you cannot see the difference in the resolution of the video), or if I was missing something that would allow the Location Line to be an initial choice, without using the Tab key, if it was not at the faces or centerline of the overall Wall.

I see, as far as I can tell you have to tab through to get core face. It is like there is a hierarchy that you have to pass through to get to the core face exterior. Center of wall is hardly ever a good choice unless your wall is layered symmetrically.

As promised, I am covering how to build a stacked wall in my blog post. First, I had to finish a series on Revit Arrays, that turned out to be a good one. Here is the post on the Stacked Wall.

In the next Community Voices I will be covering Hints and Hacks: Breaking Down Doors and Window Families where I will be covering a bit of a problem with stacked walls when it comes to placing doors and windows in them. Join me for that one.
