Alias locks up MacPro MacOS 10.11.6 when loading workspace

when I select one of those icons

Alias 2016 or also 2017 locks up the computer.

Alias worked some weeks ago fine - now it does not anymore.

I have the exact same problem except I don't have those icons come up.. both 2016 and 2017 stopped working. I tried to delete my preference files but still no luck. Freezes the whole computer.

cekuhnen, do you happen to have a Nvidia graphics card? For me if I switch to the OS X default graphic driver, Alias will load but the performance is crap. Guessing Alias isn't happy with the latest Nvidia drivers? Were you able to fix this? Think I'm going to try to revert back to Yosemite if not.

Bummer.. I've been in contact with Alias tech support and they suspect it's a problem with the latest nvidia drivers. Other thing it could be is that I have a flashed GTX980 to run on Mac and I suspect cekuhnen has flashed cards as well? Maybe that has something to do with that? I still have the ATI card that came with the computer. I might try to put that back in and see if it will run alias..

I have standard GTX 970s no flashed versions. Alias worked fine till some days ago !!!

I am now really upset that from AD no engineer looks into this thread.

I guess we better really just focus onto Fusion 360 where the forum is very responsive with

addressing user issues.

Makes sense, I've just installed the latest nvidia, i had an earlier version running before, so ill switch it back and see how it goes.

Have you already tried to reset the preferences of Alias by renaming the UserPrefs2017 and UserPrefs2016 folder?

I am wondering what has changed on your system since Alias cannot run anymore.

Have you installed any system tools, drivers or so on?

Do you know where this folder is?

I removed everything I found when I installed Alias 2017 incl. everything in the Application Support folder in Library I found.

Mac: finder> library> preferences> autodesk> alias>

PC: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias

Even with those removed the Mac completely freezes or at least the screen does.

you ,mentioned that Alias was running fine some weeks ago.

Do you know what has changed in the meantime.

I assume that something within your system has changed. Drivers, software, permissions, Firewall settings.

When the monitor is freezing, how long have you waited till you restarted the machine?

Could it be that the machine is unfreezing after a long time?

(The issue really feels like you have some graphic card issue or graphic driver issue.)

The question is more what has changed in the meantime.

Maybe have a look into the logs of your system what has installed or updated in the meantime.

Potentially another software is interfering with Alias?

Have you tried to reinstall it?

Yes I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Normally Alias is one of the most rock solid applications.

The only thing I could maybe guess is that screen sharing apps are conflicting with it.
I installed Duet and AstroPad. But it would be odd in case Alias has issues with those as
everything else performs fine.

I have seen an internet explorer plugin causing Alias to CER-crash right after the start. Therefore I can imaging that any kind of updated or installed software can cause issues.
You are right, normally Alias is really solid.

Can you potentially go back in history using the Apple time machine?

They are small - so no problem.

restarted
launched Alias
but it still freezes when initializing workflows.
