Alias Surface 2013 not working with AMD Threadripper 2990WX 32-core processor

I upgraded my hardware, but Alias Surface 2013 is not loading properly on this hardware. Are there drivers or libraries that can be added to work with the graphics card. It's the best graphics card at the moment so I'm surprised that the prompt describes this as being below Autodesk recommended levels. Do I need to use an older graphics card from 2013 in order to make this work? Links for qualified hardware are broken. So information is sparse.

Can you attach (or copy/paste) the System Diagnostics for your machine? (Utilities->System Information->System Diagnostics)?

I would like to see which error is being produced? You listed the AMD Threadripper but then you said graphics card? But the Threadripper is a CPU (a processor), not a graphics card?

Hi Wayne,

You are correct. I have a Nvidia Geforce 2080ti graphics card. I checked the device manager and could see that Nvidia drivers didn't load. Once I registered with Nvidia I was able to download the drivers for this machine. It seems I needed to do a few more steps before posting this. All is well at the moment.

This is an ongoing issue I'm having here. I'm using Windows 10 Enterprise and noticed that support for 2013 with Windows 10 is no longer supported so I suspected this was the conflict between the software and Win 10. I downloaded the trial to Alias Surface 2019 and I'm having the same issue. When I open a CAD file Alias freezes. So because this is new hardware I thought it had something to do with the new CPU, RAM etc. I ran a stress test on the system all seemed to be working still without issue.

This seemed like a longshot I pulled the new graphics card out and replaced it with an older Quadro k4200. Still the problem persists.

Is there some other software that could be having a conflict with Surface 2019. The only thing I could think was that after pulling the graphics card I had to reestablish an internet connection. That made me think that perhaps something was being blocked via firewall or port? Is that possible? Does the software need the internet for opening CAD files?

Hi Curt,

No, no internet connection needed for opening CAD files. Translators make a command line call, though, which makes paths on disk or licensing a *possible* issue.

Can you please supply your system information (Utilities->System Information->System Diagnostics), as requested from Wayne above?

Does your freeze happen when trying to open *any/all* CAD file types, or is e.g. opening a wire file fine?

Hi Michael,

You are correct. .wire files are no problem. It seems .stp or .igs files are the reason for the hangups. What is the solution for this? Is there an additional download for the translators? I'm going to see if it's as simple as enabling a plugin within the application.

The translators are running in a second process. There is something preventing the run. Can you do a software renender (which launches the renderer as a second process)? Also does Hardware shade work?

I have to find a portable CD drive. I think I remember some of the .igs translators as being separate downloads in the installation of my 2013 software. Not sure why this would be an issue with the 2019 version.

Hi Curt,

We have another customer reporting the same issue, so this hopefully helps us to identify the root cause of the issue. I have created issue ALS-7474 to keep track of this bug.
One more question for you: could you please explicitly try the OBJ import/export? That translator also works a little bit different than the others.

I just tried pulling in a basic box.obj and same thing. Seems all translators are hung up after open/import selection and then it just hangs while it tries to retrieve.

Any other thoughts for the fix?

I want to buy this software, but I can't knowing that the translators aren't working.

I've uninstalled the 2019 software completely and reinstalled 2019 to see if maybe one of the updates I made to the computer in post needed to be installed before installation of 2019. Still no effect. The translators for .igs, .stp and .obj will not open.
