Hi, I have a student license of Alias Autostudio 2019 and it keeps crashing the moment I try to trim a surface. I have Dell Precision 5510 laptop with 16GB of RAM, Nvidia M1000M and Windows 10 64-bit for software. I've updated both the program with the latest update and drivers for the GPU.

Hi @Anonymous,

you wrote that you updated your Alias 2019 version. Did you update it to 2019.3?

If not, could you try if the update solves the issue.

If you run already the update 3, is the crash happening with every trim operation or is it specific to a scene.

If it´s specific to a scene, could you share it with me?

Thanks, Nadja

Thanks for replying, I updated it to Alias 2019.3 and yes it happens with every trim operation. The trim crosses don't even show up, it just freezes and crashes instantly. I also updated the GPU to the latest driver as mentioned previously and it still has the same result. Is trimming operation mainly CPU or GPU related?

Hi, are you sure, your system is using the Nvidia card, and not the Onboard Intel graphic when working in Alias? You could deactivate the Intel graphics in your systems' BIOS. And disable the Optimus driver, as he could switch your system to the onboard graphics.

The disadvantage of deactivating the onboard graphics is a higher power consumption.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have a Lenovo P51 here and I tested Alias on it. It has a Quadro M2200.

On this Laptop I can trim.

I would say your Laptop is not the best for working with Alias, especially not if the files are getting bigger or the operations are getting more complex, but a basic trim on a cube should work.

Did you try the suggestion from Pascal. Perhaps you are using the wrong graphics card?

Best, Nadja

Does Alias create a non-zero exception log associated with these trim crashes? You can find the exception logs inside your preferences directory, for example the default location would be...

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Alias\UserPrefs2019\ExceptionLogs

If there is an exception log (and it contains a log, sometimes it can't produce once during a crash) then can you post it here? If you can't post the entire file, what I really need is the area labeled "Stack Trace:"
