The demo video shows CVs moving as expected in the NURBS environment. However in the version I have CVs in the SubD cage move randomly when the Move CV normal tool in invoked. Further the tool interface itself seems to be missing it's UI. I used to invoke the Move CV normal tool options with the Spacebar. Now I cannot find these options

Hey Jeff,

this sounds strange. Just to be clear that we don't misunderstand each other. You are talking about the Move CV tool (a.k.a xfrmcv). And within this tool, you are talking about the 'Slide' option, right? It should display as many arrows at each vertex, as it has adjacent edges. When dragging these arrows, the CVs should move into the same direction (at least on a 'grid-like' structure, if your topology is made up of triangles, ngons and star points - good luck!). Also, the hot spot menu should show, when you press the [Space] bar.

In case that is what you meant, but it behaves differently, we should investigate it. It might be a bug or maybe wrong user preferences. Can you provide a more detailed screenshot and the version number you are working with?

Regards

Stephan

The problem seems to be my expectation for the move CV (slide) was set in the 2013 version. CVs would "slide" until superimposed on the next adjacent CV. (see 1) Same as if you did a scale to pivot with the pivot set on top of the target CV. Problem is that with the new tool the CV seems to not target the next CV but randomly nearby. (see 2) This is a huge problem when trying to smooth out complex surfaces as the CV moves in unpredictable moreover unwanted ways. I reverted to scale to pivot method. Very slow and only works one CV at a time.

Hi Jeff,

Okay, I don't have access to Alias 2013 (2016 is my oldest version at hand). Your 1.JPG already looks odd to me. I would expect the arrows to point towards their neighbour CVs?

The result for your subd operation definitely looks wrong. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce this "random" movement with my Alias 2020 RTM version (build 312), CVs move towards their neighbours, and also "arrive" there when being dragged far enough.

Could you please move aside your preferences for this, and test it again? If your CVs still move randomly, please let me know, we may need to do a screensharing session then.

Best regards,

GG

Hmm I have the same bug on my Alias with subd cylinder primitives, but I noticed that if I recreate a cylinder by extruding a closed, non-periodic degree 1 curve, Transform CV in NUV works exactly as expected. Perhaps something wrong with the cylinder primitive?

I found the problem. It has to do with how my marking menus were interpreted when imported from my old Alias to Alias 2020. I reloaded my marking menu with the prefered Move CV Normal setting and the problem was fixed.
