the main problem by adding maybe mesh or gratings with single bars: this will be so many objects!

So by doing this we had to remember, that Advance Steel is only using AutoCAD, and this is in my opinion the problem =).
And I think this will never be developed because if you add 50 grating: now we have 50 objects... if you want single bars, this 50 object will be easily more then 3000 objects. This will reduce the performance enorm.

Hi All.

Is it possible to display floor grating in its true form to create accurate rendering in 3DMax for a customer, or can anyone please tell me how to accomplish this.

Some of the areas are large, 15m x 17m.

Look forward to suggestions.

Shaun.

I've created the grating in AS as actual individual beams and also created as a plate with hole features. Then when exported to Max you can display in a more detailed way. Lots of work in AS but a superior result when rendered.

You should be able to create and apply a material in 3DSMax which handles all of the little cut-outs for you, just as you would for fencing or glass. I've done similar with Navisworks. If the camera were to be closer (ie. first-person, on the platform) physically modeled pieces might look better though.

Hi Jonathan.

Did you create the flooring as a profile 6mx1m panel and cut/clipped to shape as required or was it created as a special part 6mx1m panel and cut/clipped to shape?

Regards Shaun.

Have there been any developments in recent versions of AS that would help with this, or are there any other suggestions on how to accomplish the production of 'realistic' mesh flooring?

We export our AS models to Navisworks for coordination purposes and it would be great if the mesh floor panels looked better. It is very obvious when models from other suppliers have realistic grating and ours just have plain plates. I appreciate that the additional detail may have an impact on model rendering performance.
