it seems it was bcx I had saved my horizontal picket rails in the library. I assume AS had made this style the default. But I thought that was the idea...? save a modified rail style so you don't have to start from scratch with the macro each time you place a rail..?? So I have to save a default horizontal picket style and a similar stair picket style..?

I started the stair rail from a AS default choice in macro library, then started from scratch and all went well. Grab rail loop doesn't work, but that's easy enough to deal wwith

i try make handrail in your model, it's fine. Maybe, before you make handrail with edit function and when you make second handrail, advance make with function first . You can try close Advance and try.

Hi,

In your first attempt in the video you select the start and end point in the opposite sequence to the suportting beams. That is what causes the problem. Select the points in the same sequence as the beams and you will be OK.

Aleck, thanks for the reply. We tried selecting helper beams in every possible sequence, even replaced beam with a set of stairs and picked those in every possible sequence, to no avail. Went back to default rails in macro, then changed all setting to match horizontal picket rails and it worked fine. Seems to be something to do with us saving the horizontal picket railing in macro library.
