CIS/2 Import/Export Functionality

I suspect the answer to this one is "hey, you're an idiot".

I cannot seem to get the CIS/2 export to function correctly. I can run though the settings, set up the export, it processes and says done, but there's nothing there. Reimporting the CIS/2 file gives me a blank model.

Here is my process (right? wrong? help?):

3D model is generated. Typically, this model won't include handrail and such at the stage of the workflow we're attempting, but this shouldn't influence it.

On the Output ribbon, select "Export CIS/2". Set settings as follows.

In the background, it runs some command called _AstM4CommAstorToCIS2New, which seems normal. The little export bar in the corner runs from left to right, taking about a minute. I get the file to pop up in the appropriate place.

However, there's nothing there. When I try to import into any program, it indicates it's a blank file. When I import it back into Advance Steel, I get the column grid, but no members.

This is one of those terribly maddening things that should very simple. Am I missing something?

Run the Numbering command prior to exporting.

Thanks for the idea. It didn't work though. Everything is numbered (I think I had already run this), but still no export.

I've attached the model in question.

tested export and import on both AS2016 & AS2017 with no issues. See attached file.

Maybe check to see of all service packs and hotfixes are applied.

We are running AS2016. I'm not sure how to verify if Hotfix 1 was installed or not, but I recall doing so. How can I check?

Can I impose on you to provide a guide as to how to do the CIS2 export?

Perhaps the answer is that I'm just an idiot and am clicking something wrong or omitting a step.

The Latest version is Build 13022 Update Release 2 Hotfix 2. To check, open Advance Steel > Tools Ribbon > About Advance.

After much work, my support person finally pulled through. The missing step was nodes. The model had no nodes, and was exporting a blank model.

It works now!

I am curious as I never really ventured into using CIS/2. What is your purpose for exporting in that format? What software is going to accept your file?

I have been exporting IFC for use in Navisworks Manage for clash detection and trade coordination. I also export IFC for a user of SDS2 to use to continue on my work. I just wonder if there was greater benefit from CIS/2

CIS/2 is the preferred import (apparently) into RISA 3D. STAAD files can also be passed, but we like CIS/2.

Rumor had it that there was going to be direct import/export of AS files into R3D, but that was apparently nothing more than a sales guy's promise.
