As for my team and I, we have begun a method of exploding the dimensions when we first finish our drawings.

We just keep careful with what we changed in the model before updating so we know where to adjust.

It helps reduce a lot of extra cleanup for us and forces us to double check everything so not much gets missed.

Not the most elegant of solutions, but very effective for us.

Neal,

Same as Adrian, mine do not move as much as it used to be before the 2019 version.

Dimensions add points occasionally:

1. On erection plans-snap to nearest grid's grip

2. On erection details-occasionally snapping to adjacent bolt holes

3. On beams and columns dwgs-very stable, not as used to be

Labels:

1. They do not move anymore on erection plans when labels are oriented per compass

2. Labels move occasionally on beams and columns drawings, but again, I feel more confident when updating. I had a very complex project recently with 100% manual dimensions, with 0% moving during update-Impressive improvement

1. Please make sure you check "proffered for manual dimensions" in steel osnap in your drafting settings.

2. In MT: Filter "update", under Drawings-dimensioning, General, set "Manual dimension points behavior" to: "Don't erase manual dimension point"

3. Also-some antivirus software packages are known to cause issues.

4. Repair SQL server

5. It is also possible to be due to hard drive issues, it happened in the past

If developers want to make the software even more stable:

1. Block regenerating of default cut views in columns and beams drawings during update

2. Block movement of cut views during update-these cause mess and unnecessary time wasted for us.

3. Block the occasional snapping to bolt holes in erection drawings

@Gernot.Jeromin, it will be great if we hear what do you think about the 3 lines above.

Regards,

Ilko Dimitrov

ACBS

The more feedback we get, the better we can improve.

In regards to your last 3 items, we are working currently on cut view improvements, and I will pass it on to your developers today.

For item number 3, I am not sure what the problem is.

Hi Ilko. Thank you for the pictures. Could you please send us some more clarifications, to make sure we understand the issues better:

In the first picture, are you referring to that preferred manual snap point on the end of the grid line, which can be manually dimensioned ? Or in your case is a point that appears during update, even if it wasn't dimension?

In the second picture, did you dimension the center of those two bolts, and then those additional points appeared during update ? With what presentation were the bolts detailed ? (the picture is a bit fuzzy if zooming in)

I really don't want to say it complete done, but I think in Version 2020 dimensions and labels are extremely stable. I'm not sure why you have such problems, maybe you use old prototypes or databases?

Do you try to use the original installed files databases, without migration? This would be very interesting.
And if you want, that the development do something, they need files to have a look and find the problem.

I am not sure what or how anything would be old. I am simply using version 2020. I don't remember what happened when I installed the new version as far as being asked about migration, etc. If that is the case, how am I suppose to fix this issue? I have prototypes setup from previous versions the way I like. I certainly don't want to go through and recreate them all. Very confusing for someone who is not a software engineer. I have attached one of many projects I am currently working on where this issue occurs on a regular basis. Thanks.

sorry for the delay. I create a detail of your camera "roof slab"--> you define a detail style which I don't have so I use a 3D view style. on the detail I delete some dimensions, create some labels, move some labels update the detail---all is good.

Then there's a camera which is define as "CROSS SECTION THROUGH TRASH CHUTE", here you set a singlepart detail style (6.02-SP Angle) as used style. And this is not a working. A detail which is based on "detailling a singlepart" could not really work for a camera which is showing a crosssection of the whole model.
Then I could see dimension moving and so on, but this is a behavior which is comprehending or not?

Thanks Sebastian,

That is strange that the Camera View would change Style on your end. The Style I have for the CROSS SECTION..... and Slab Plans is: 3 - Elevation View - Full.

It is also strange that some labels and dimensions that I have moved continue to move back to where they were after I do a Forced update. This is my biggest complaint right now with Advance Steel. It wastes my time and many times I have to go back and recreate PDF drawings because of this problem. You say this should not happen with 2020, but I clearly continue to have these issues. I don't want to loose any prototypes I have modified along with the Management Tools settings I have established, but I would like to solve this problem once and for all. Thanks for your help.

I have attached 3 screen captures of an example that just happened with AS 2020.

01-Initial assembly drawing

This is what AS created with Selected Camera Page Full

02-modified assembly drawing

This shows that I added dimensions and labels

03-forced update drawing

This is the result after one forced update, Labels moved. Usually the added dimensions move too. That may happen in another forced update.

Hi,

The labels as shown on your screenshots are not supposed to move, such overlapping occurs only if steel is moved and label stays.

Another thing is-it takes less than an hour-I would "update" / re-create all prototypes modified in previous years.

GA dwgs are 99%+ stable, no labels should move unless label is moved manually to the other half of the beam length and dwg update is placing them near the correct end to match the detailing orientation.

Devs did a great job making AS2020 stable, there are a few occasions when dims still move, they are aware of them and probably we will see them improved.
