Setting up Automatic Dimensions

See the attached screen shot. I am wanting to adjust my auto dimensioning so I am not constantly having to delete and change unwanted dimensions. I have crossed out in blue what I do not want or need. I have wasted a lot of time doing this and need the software to do what it is supposed to do. Can someone let me know what exactly to change in the dsm or a suggest a good tutorial on the subject? Thanks!

This may be one of the most difficult customization you can attempt. We gave up on it because we wasted 10,000 times the time it takes to just manually clean up the "out of the box" dims.

The examples I gave really don't justify what I get on average. I just finished cleaning up 1500 part/ assembly details in 90 pages of drawings. I've got close to 50 hours alone in cleanup. The overall dimensions are pretty good, but 75% of the time, it pulls dimensions from system lines and not the parts. Also, if I force update a drawing for some reason, it seems like it is a 50/50 chance that the dimensions and/or labels go back to where they were.

Thank you for posting on Advance Steel forum 🙂

As @muleman1 suggested, you could start from the webinars we have created as part of Build Your Advance Steel IQ series. There are 4 specific webinars, 2 about customizing Object presentation and labeling rules and 2 about customizing dimensions.

I would highly recommend to start with the ones for object presentation and labeling rules, since all drawing styles customization is based on "model objects".

Regarding your picture:

- the dimension like "El. 16' ..." is the "Level, absolute" one (you could delete it if you do not want it)

- the system axis points are requested by the points type "Ref. Mp, System" or "Beam - System to system" (dimensions requesting System points of the object)

Please see also the attached pictures.

So you would have to go through the dimension chains definitions, to see which ones are asking for these points.

one tips to help u identify witch dimension string gose with wot dim on drawing

so expanded "view dimenstions" select a dim then go to tab "dimention label"

u will probily wont to label evry dim then

delete all u dont wont , edit others then remove labels after u finished

Besides looking for system to system, this is how I narrowed down the rest of the list to find the one that I needed to change.
