How do I color in Sketchbook without going outside the line art?

I'm watching and following along with this video on Sketchbook's YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arDLLNOcbkA but, I can't seem to color my character correctly. How is she coloring without going outside the lines? Attached is a screenshot of what I'm practicing on.

Color in the whole area in a couple of big strokes and adjust brush so it's bigger.

The use an eraser to delete the outside of the line. The painting layer should be different from the line art layer.

THANKS SO MUCH! These videos help me so much! Right now I'm working on how to make my image transparent. Here I'm tracing my Scanned drawing of Peter Griffin. I've colored all but his shirt and eyes because, they're white. But I want to make the background transparent. So right now I'm trying to figure out how to make the background transparent, how to shade/highlight and how I'm going to color white areas of my character if the background is going to be transparent.

By the way I colored him with the marker tool. I'm also trying to figure out how I can color him with the fill tool so I don't have to have all the streaks of color. When I clicked the fill tool on his pants to paint it green, the entire canvas and other parts of the character became green. Every time I tried to paint one area, the entire canvas would become that color.

Just BEFORE you are finished, re-save the file. If you use the 'Save As" option, it will add a number to the file so that you can save your progress. It is very important to have more than 1 working version of the file. i.e. File > Save As > Peter.tif, File > Save As > Peter2.tif, Peter3.tif, Peter4.tif, etc.

a. To get your artwork to have a "Transparent" background/alpha channel, click on the background and make it transparent.

b. See where the checkerboard is...if the shirt is transparent, you need to paint it white. The rest of the background should have a checkboard.

c. File > Save as > Peter.png. >> THAT IS WHY YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL AS .TIF. You can 'maintain' the layers. Only .psd and .tif format has layers in the file. .png and .jpg files have only 1 layer.

d. Import into a Powerpoint and confirm that image is 'transparent'.

Well......I try to make drawings on smartphone instead of laptop /pc......but you can most probably understand the steps..........you have to select the area you want the colour in.......to do that just go to selection button......click on it.......now tap the first button to see 3 options......click the last option.....((the icon is something like a dotted oval with a wand......))

Now click on the line which you want to act as the boundary........and you are good to go........after doing so you will see a dotted line outline the line as boundary.....now just use whichever brush you want to colour.......hope this was helpful........good luck👍👍
