What is the purpose of the Autodesk Desktop App?

It seems like it has morphed over the years. Now it just gets in the way of managing my software. I can't control what users see if they login. It doesn't seem to do a good job patching existing software anymore. Perhaps it's just in my house? Am I missing something it does?

It's a nanny style app designed for users scared to "break anything" on their computers to help them keep their Autodesk software updated.

There are no management tools, its not designed with a cad manager/IT manager in mind: most of us who never give end-users admin-login-rights in Windows never install it for the average user for this reason.

i just use it for update notifications & download the update from my Autodesk Account

as far as controlling what users see that was never the intention of the Desktop App

there are some options in your Autodesk Account to ignore certain updates but i don't believe this gets carried down to the desktop app

Until they make it usable for users without admin-privileges (i.e. install applications in system context, not user), the Desktop App seems pretty useless. It's been 2 years since Autodesk said they would bring this feature, but so far there is not signs of it.
