When importing an FBX manually, there is an 'Update materials' checkbox that you can toggle. My guess is that when you use the 'easy button' version in the 'send to', it is assuming you want that box checked and is messing with your settings. I noticed when I was testing your workflow, I got a dialog in max2017 that a material with the same name already exists, did i want to overwrite or not. Perhaps that has something to do with it as well. Honestly not entirely sure bceuase I havent made a ton of use of the 'send' buttons.

thanks for your answer.
I had made a ton of use of the 'send' buttons and i found no way

the only way i found to keep the asset material is to give it material when it is inside the level.

When you send an object you should get the same import window. This should give you the option to update materials when sending them. If not there may be a bug you are experiencing. What version are you using? 1.5 should most certainly have these options available.

Hello,

The Update button will respect the settings of the import_options for the unit.

So to fix this for you, you need to re-import the unit (right-click re-import) and uncheck 'Materials' or open the import_options and manually set:

skip_materials = true

'Update Materials' is an option to update the materials, in your case you want to ignore all material options such as material assignments to slots. Disabling 'Upddate Materials' prevents overwriting the material graphs if the materials already exist.
