Stingray $16 More Expensive, 3 Mos. Min. 4 Some Countries

Hi. It's unfortunate and discouraging that Stingray is available for $30 monly basis only for some countries but not for countries who need it more to be affordable. Some countries outside the US, it seems it's not only available as a download but it's $16 dollars more and it's only available at a minimum 3 month/quarterly subscription.

It's recommended that the $30 per month have a disclaimer or note that it's only available for some countries in the promotions and videos (and that for some countries it's $16 more and 3 months minimum).

It's discouraging because the other engines are essentially free, easily downloadable by anyone and run on both OS X and Windows.

But if there's any way Autodesk could change their pricing and subscription as well as make it consistent with the US site, make it downloadable (like Apple's App Store, which have different stores in different countries but they are consistent, even in pricing) for the rest of the world, that'd be most encouraging. If it's possible that can be made week (coz' it took awhile to know the pricing and subscription which is why it'd be best if all countries have all products available for download and they just pay with credit card/other payments), that'd be great news.

Also, if you subscribe to Stingray outside the US, would you be getting the exact same product or in other countries some features like Maya LT (hopefully not) are not available? Does one need to buy or subscribe from the reseller from their country or you could buy/subscribe it from any reseller outside one's country (would it apply to any Autodesk product)?

Thanks for the feedback. As always I will pass this along to the team. As for pricing, Stingray is super competitive and compared to other 'free' software, a much better deal as we do not collect from you when your project is sold -- plus you get the super Stingray support! 🙂

Hi. Thanks Dan. No need to inform them, thanks for the concern, though- much appreciated.

They've already kept in touch with me via email and have given the quote but I told them that I'll discern first if I'll still subscribe to Stingray and that for the mean time, while I discern, if she could email me how will go about the payment, that'd be nice too coz' I need to know if we need to go the low tech way and tell them my credit card details either by email or by the phone which I'm not sure I'm comfortable with (my credit card's been newly replaced coz' someone was charging it monthly without delivering the goods and if there's way to uncheck auto charge like in Apple Music, they might keep charging the card if Autodesk's doing it the low tech way for other countries), this is really the reason or one of the major reasons I really would like to request (for others) if Autodesk can setup a store for all countries and have the same prices like the Apple App Store, if possible this week/as soon as you can.

Though I'm praying and looking at the disadvantages and advantages of Stingray over the ones used- the payment and how to get Stingray is really the kind of turn off to switch if you'll forgive [again it's $16 more expensive than the US price, it's not on OS X and 3 mos. min which means it'll cost an initial of US$137. I'm just convincing Autodesk to copy Apple App Store style because it would benefit the others, the developing countries especially if it's even cheaper than $30 (like there's MS Office legit products or games that are made cheaper for developing countries), paid online and downloaded all in a day- no hassle ] me but I'm sure the discernment is leaning towards risking switching to Stingray, God's will be done.

If say Autodesk followed Apple's App Store where there's just one App Store but there's one for each country (hopefully they just merge it all into one too so any app is available for anyone), if there's only one reseller allowed for each country, it can just have an ID for that reseller, so every commission from the sale of Autodesk for that country would go to their account, much like an affiliate program.

How does one become a reseller by the way? Does Autodesk only allow 1 reseller for each country? Reseller sounds interesting, this could be a blessing in disguise- lots of opportunities to make the buying/subscribing a better experience (at least here). Thank you.

Hi Dan. Not to worry, great news, the discernment, my heart of hearts says take the risk to switch to Stingray. Thanks again Autodesk for listening- the support too, it's like Ubisoft and Apple's cool support, that made me switch as well, you were right.

I've emailed the resellers but please do tell sir Carl Bass, Autodesk's CEO to help create with the resellers all over not just here, a secure online payment system wherein any nation can buy any product (not just a selected product) at the same price just like Apple's App Store and Steam or GOG. Also ask him if he could kindly port Stingray already to OS X (El Capitan is retail anyway) and kindly lower the prices for everybody. It's hard to compete with the industry's standards coz' Stingray is great but it's not that compelling for especially companies to switch, I'm switch coz' it's Autodesk, it's more of an emotional decision. Also Autodesk should give it everything's it's got and not just make it for indie developers but for big companies as well, so that this kind of standard makes for a really great product. Lastly, ask sir Carl if they can merge Maya and Stingray into one and do put a Feedback on Stingray itself, coz' it's tedious to reply and offer feedback and suggestions logging in and out the Autodesk site. When you open autodesk products, you log in, anyway, there's a lot of redundancy.

Most importantly, maybe you can convince sir Carl if he'd be so generous to create a kind of raffle to win Autodesk products like Stingray, so it's free for the winners. That would be the best promotion. A kind of raffle to get things free (maybe even physical things included) that's not just available on Christmas time- much like Steam, they make some products, popular ones, best-sellers Free, Apple App Store does that too with it's big name apps. Those are really welcome coz' life's tough (not that tough that it's impossible):D

There's a lead time of 3-4 weeks but could you make it just 1 day so I could use (others too won't wait that long) Stingray as early as tomorrow night here.

The resellers there, they need help there, coz' convenience in payment = faster sales/bigger revenues. It's a win-win things. I'd like to share my partial email to them:

How are things? Thank you so much for your generosity, humility and kindness. After much analysis with pros & cons, much discernment and deep prayers) I’m taking the risk to switch to Autodesk's new game engine.

I’d like to pay now/today via credit card, Mastercard, the Stingray game engine for 3 months/quarterly, Php 6,300 net.

I’m not sure what the lead time is about but if it’s about the length of time to get the license key, download and start using it, 3-4 weeks is too long, by then it’d defeat the purpose of the subscription and might be too late for Christmas sales, the biggest sale time, for products that would be produced from Stingray game engine. If I may request, if I can pay and download the software with the license key so I can start using it as early as tomorrow night.

P.S. Though, I appreciate very much the personal approach of email, offices and phones, I’d really like to suggest/appeal to Autodesk Philippines resellers to create an easy, very secure online payment for the Philippines (I guess it’ll be autodesk.ph) so that’s the whole experience would be smoother and much faster. It’ll be a win-win situation for both resellers and other Philippine customer. If we can follow the lead of Apple App Store's convenience, that’d be the best because time is money, time’s the only resource we can never bring back. It’s not a great experience for customers to take weeks or months (from inquiry to payment to actually using the product finally), coz’ that’s gonna’ hurt reseller sales too. Thanks:-) I’m saying this with all humility and kindness, my apologies if it’s not coming out like that; helping make things a little better for both resellers and customers.

Hi. Hopefully they'll take credit card payment (I don't know how they'll do that though) coz' if they say they only take cash, that's another inconvenience going to the bank but it'll be worse if they only do it at their office (that's 6 hours back and forth, $5 to $10 more for gas and toll gate). This truly is just a 5 to 10 minute sale if only everything available online like, again Apple App Store:-) hopefully it all improves as soon as possible for other people and also for the next subscription. It's easy to see the exact problem if we put ourselves in someone's place (golden rule like in the bible alongside the silver rule). Thank you. I can't wait to use Stingray again.

Hi They've called and given the bank details, it's a bit late for the bank now but tomorrow is good, first thing in the morning. It's good coz' I don't have to think about it now that much, now that I have their bank details.

It's good that I'm about to pay the subscription but Dan I told the Autodesk (nicely of course) country manager if they can ask Autodesk to build the country (as well as all countries for consistency- we really have to copy the Apple App Store, it's been so efficient and very successful for all nations not just the developed nations) a great apps store and make all Autodesk products available for purchase.

I told the country manager (who's kind and humble to call) with a good app store for the country, what took 1 month (from inquiry to sales when I get to deposit the payment tomorrow, God willing there's no typhoon again) could have just taken 5 to 7 minutes- it could have been just a 7 minute sale for Autodesk and for everybody. But to be fair, it should be consistent even the pricing and monthly subscription (more so, again for developing countries who don't need a higher prices and non-monthly subscription- it's a bit a ironic come to thing about it).

I'm saying this with kindness and humility and that spirit of helping the world become a better place through small suggestions (it's really for others too especially for other Autodesk sites in developing nations) but it's all blessing in disguise. Autodesk truly needs to overhaul all their sites around the world. I can't wait to renew it with just a click and pay it after this subscription ends- that'd be one less hassle/headache so customers can focus on their jobs and project deadlines (I'm really delayed now pray I make it, pray for my success). If Apple can do it, so can Autodesk:-)

Also, if you could ask the bosses at Autodesk to already port Stingray and merge Maya LT into it, that'd be the best way to integrate and for workflow to be smoother (coz' with this setup up, you have to reboot to Windows, then reboot again to OS X back again- you can't also just log in on Windows, coz' if you check with say Spybot and other malware apps, there's always some kind of malware even if you have anti-virus resident in your Windows. It's usually a keylogger but that takes too long to log in. I have to reboot to OS X just to be safe (it also has an anti-virus). It's hard to trust Windows when you need to type in your password, for example, to reply to Autodesk when there's a new reply. We're hoping for your kind consideration- Bitsquid was already OS X ready if I remember anyway:-)

Hi. The customer support was crucial to purchasing a quarterly subscription, thanks to the hardworking prompt & technical Autodesk staff (just paid yesterday).

By the way, what's an SLM (this takes 3 to 4 weeks) and what's an ELM (2 to 3 days)? Also I still have the trial (expired) of Stingray, do I need to redownload it? Or I just enter a file license or serial key. When Stingray is activiated again Maya LT and the other cool features are too? Also if Autodesk creates an app store for the Philippines with all the Autodesk products available (it's the only way to have an auto renewal checkbox anyway too, so customers don't need to do the deed- manually going to the bank, long lines, drive some more, etc. ) could you include for all countries, some Autodesk merchandize, like a really good 100% cotton collard shirt or t-shirt, USB, keychain with nicely embossed logo, some kind of cool science desktop toy- they must look cool, elegant and affordable, etc.) Thanks.
