F! and help drive me nuts I simply just remove the button lol. it might seem extreme but ive ran into problems re assigning window keys. in the rare situation you need F1 I just use a pen or something to hit the switch

disabling help F1

Hello,

It seems this issue is quite a common one, but I haven't had any luck finding a solution. I followed a common suggestion to replace the F1 key with something(I use mid of 2 points because I use it all the time and typing "m2p" is too slow!), but half the time the help window opens up anyway. Does anyone know of a solution other than tampering with the help system files and what-not?

Thanks!

This has come up numerous times here and in the Customization Forum. I expect any viable solutions have already been suggested, and you'll find a lot of discussion about the potential drawbacks [such as effects on other programs since F1 for Help is a Windows-standard function, not an AutoCAD one, etc.]. My favorite was a photo in which someone had glued a tack onto the F1 key, point up.

Hah, thanks for the humorous solutions, everyone. Yeah, it seemed like there was no perfect solution.

Good one...

My favorite is to pop out the left windows key
(between [Ctrl] and [Alt]) and with a Dremmel tool
cut off the nipple on the underside. Put back in
and not only is it unusable, but also a placeholder
for my ring finger as the button is now collapsed.

Leave the right one alone so IT personnel does not
get mad.

Scot-65
