Hi Alfred,

Yes I certainly can, please see attached picture. You are correct I do run a plugin (SprinkCAD) but I've been using SprinkCAD for a while now, never had an issue with it like this before. I don't believe its being caused by SprinkCAD but who knows I could be wrong.

Hello everyone,

I have been working with Autocad for nearly 10 years now and I have unfortunately forgot some of the grass-root beginners "need to knows". My issue is a bit odd and out of the ordinary however, as I will begin to explain.

A few days ago, for some reason I somehow screwed up my Autocad default settings. Whenever I now first open Autocad whether it be a new design file or an existing, the dialogue box "Scale Options" pops up and I click the "OK" button... after that for some reason my Autocad is somehow referring to another file I have that is full of details I have made/collected over the years (TONS OF GENERIC DETAILS, VERY LARGE FILE!) Which for one slows the startup of my Autocad program and secondly I don't ever need all of these details at once. That's why I have them in a separate file, so I can cherry pick the ones I need for the project I am working on.

Can someone help me find my way outta this mess? I honestly cant think of any odd or out of the ordinary actions I did to cause this. Feel like Autocad has a mind of its own, possible first beginnings of a malevolent AI???

PS: I've tried going through "Options" > "Drawing Template path" etc, etc... and checked all of them and they appear to all be fine?

Can you please show that dialog as screenshot?
...and are you sure it's not from the loaded application? At least the menus are not AutoCAD default ones, so it looks like an app is loaded and that might raise that dialog.

Thank you for uploading the screenshot.

And as you can see in that dialog: "copyright 2017 Tyco Fire Protection ....", and this means: the dialog is not from AutoCAD, you need to ask the vendor of that application about how to get rid of that.

It's a Tico thing,

in Autocad you have only the QNEW setting.

Options, Files, Template , Qnew..

Simple test: Start Autocad with SAFEMODE paramter, if the issue gone you know it isn't a Acad thing.

PS: This file... OMG

I'm sure you got this figured out a long time ago, but figured I'd throw in the solution just in case anyone else finds this thread. With SprinkCAD, if you press OK on the Scale Options dialog when a drawing is opened, it loads a file called "protofh.dwg" into your drawing. This is usually located at:

"C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\TycoFP\SprinkCAD\R.##\PROTOFH.DWG"

I am not sure how your file full of details ended up getting saved as protofh.dwg, but this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It happened to me and a coworker about a decade ago, and that's how I learned what was going on. Protofh.dwg can be anything you want it to be; a template, empty, etc. Mine is completely empty, but I've seen others use a title block template (although I personally hate when title blocks are in model space).

As an alternative, you can avoid this altogether. The Scale Options dialog only shows up if there's no scale block in the drawing being opened by SprinkCAD. The scale block is a block named "SCALE" on the Defpoints layer at 0,0,0. It consists of a point at the insertion point on layer 0, and an invisible attribute named "SCALE" which then needs a value. Most commonly that value will be " 1/8"=1'-0" " (sorry for the weird quotes around that value). I have a drawing template I use for all new projects, and it has the scale block pre-inserted, so the Scale Options dialog doesn't show when I start a new drawing from that template.

If you get the Scale Options dialog, it just means the scale block isn't there. If you press ok, then protofh.dwg is inserted and a scale block is created, so you won't get the dialog the next time that file is opened (if you save it). If you press cancel, then nothing is inserted or created, and you'll get the dialog the next time that file is opened.
