Page set-ups are saved in the drawing files. They do no load up fresh with each opening of the drawing. That would have to be done with coding of some sort.

Is there a way to load page setups in autocad to be accessed every time you go to print, as opposed to having to import to every single drawing? For example: the location of ctb files are linked in autocad by linking the path in options so that every time you go to print, those ctb's are available instead of having to import every single time a new drawing is open/created. It just seems to make sense that this should be possible and logical to be easily accessible just like the ctb's. I just cant think of a reason why it would not be. If you go through the trouble of creating page setups, you would want to be able to easily access them no matter what drawing you are working on. My current situation is that there are several different printers that are used in our work site. So we have created several page setups for each printer to make it easier for other people to print our drawings. our drawings are stored in a separate software/archive so everyone can view them and print them. so we cannot simply run the script to add page setups to all the drawings. They have to checked out of the current location to unlock them for editing, then opened, make the change, and check them back in. There are a few thousand drawings. Again, I just don't understand why it would not be easily accessed via a pre-determined link just like the ctb's are. unless I am missing something. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I feel your pain. A few years ago, I switched to one page setup: DWG to PDF.pc3

I print to ANSI D / PDF 99.99% of everything I plot. With that PDF file, you can push it to any printer you want.

I used to try to create Page Setups for the different machines in our office, but when the printer network name changed or we got some new equipment... we were screwed and back at square one.

If you REALLY want to do something closer to what you're asking, the best guess I have is setting up a typical plot and saving it as a PC3 file instead of a Page Setup.

Hi @Anonymous,

I believe most customers will put the page setups in a template file so any new drawing based on that template will have them immediately available.

I like your idea of being able to create a repository that can be added to a path for instance in Options.

You are welcome to contact the product team directly. If you have additional comments specific to the software or its functionality for future consideration, please use the Product Feedback page. How to provide feedback on Autodesk products goes into more detail.

Another great option is to participate in the AutoCAD Customer Council. This is an opportunity for our customers to partner with the AutoCAD development team to improve future releases of AutoCAD by giving continuous feedback on ideas, designs, and early builds.
In order to get involved email autocad.beta@autodesk.com or autocad.lt.council@autodesk.com

Yes we are using the template with page setups already there. We are working with drawings that have been here for more than 10 years. so as things change, we need new page setups. Thank you for your feedback. I will take your advice and contact the product feed back page. Thanks again!

I played with this a little. I like it. The only issue is that I cannot get it to recognize a plot style. we have a list of different plot styles to choose from that are built from ctb files. Is there a way to get the PC3 file to save with a plot style so it will not have to be selected every time? Similar to the way that a page setup saves with a set plot style. Or is it just information specifically about the printer such as paper size, page orientation, etc.

it is unclear how to print ....
Do you use the publication?
You can use the Lisp, which will set the print settings, and will set the printing style.

I'm not a fan of changing the PC3 and that's why I added it as a "guess" at the end of my post...

At a past employer, I recall having a lisp or macro that would remove all page setups and then reload with a specific template's page setups. You still have to open each drawing, but it was nothing more than hitting a button on a toolbar or palette to load the most recent setups.

At my current job, I have two Page Setups... either B&W or COLOR PDF. Everyone has the DWG to PDF pc3 file and it's not too complicated to share something that comes standard with AutoCAD.

Food for thought:

There is a LSP routine by Dave Jones that should be able to delete and import page setups to individual files.

Here's the link: https://www.cadtutor.net/forum/topic/61202-problem-with-autocad-2013-page-setup/

What I did was create a Macro button on a tool palette that would run the LSP that removes all the Page Setups from the file I have open, and then run the LSP that would import Page Setups from a file that I specified in the Macro.

So once click deleted every Page Setup and then imported all new Page Setups. This way, I knew everything in the file was good and up-to-date.

From there, you can run Plot or Publish to print and specify the appropriate Page Setup... Or you could write a few Macros that would plot a specific page setup and put the button(s) on a tool palette.

The macro stuff requires some trial and error testing, but as long as you know the page setup names (and they're good!), it shouldn't be too difficult.
