In the target dwg, you can enter UNITS. You may have specified mm as the unit in the right listbox ?

In the dwg sources, the exact same parameter has to be set according to the "source of the source".

That is just in case your 3DS are transfered in a dwg before being inserted as blocks.

The best methods I would employ for that automatic purpose.

Edit : don't know if your 3DS objects come into autocad with a name block, it can't be the same name that you give to the dwg. by the way, ff they come as blocks, explode them and purge before you let them in a single dwg each.

ok.....

How to change the 3D object( any format) to the target you want?

For example...

This is my 3D house and I have 3D doors (from internet) dwg format but is too big, how I can to changing size?

Also I know the dimensions that I need ( width 870mm, height 2000mm)

Thanks

I'll be honest with you : doing 3D in Autocad with a too light knowledge is not good...

To deal with units in target and sources means that you 100% manage blocks outside your drawing, that you know how to purge, etc.

Would it be a block or not, I would WBLOCK this door and open it as a single DWG, then UNITS command in it and see if coorect.

Back in the house, where the door has been purged (if it was already a block), I bring it back with INSERT and Browse....

Again, when sources and target are well set, no worries...

Another way would be to SCALE the door using the REFerence option with no question of blocks. It will ask you a base point, you'll choose then the Reference option and will specify the width (opening) of the door with 2 clicks (for exemple) and the final length, that you may know (870mm)

If you know the scale from the object and your calculations, it is even easier (looks like your door needs a 0.1 factor)

PS : in recent Windows, you can find the little soft named "capture" to take photos of your screen.

Measure your door height: what is the ratio difference? It's likely other units of scale were used to create it (you want mm, it was created in inches or cm or ... etc. Find out then fix it with SCALE command.

Q: why are you inserting your door on a layer called 2D Ceiling?

BTW Here is how capture screenshots in Windows7 and newer https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots

You have gotten some good help here but if you are still stumped, please attach a sample of your door and also you house. I can verify the units in both, check your insert units in your house file and then make some suggestions. You can also look for a Metric Specific block to use instead of the Imperial.

Hi @Anonymous,

I apologize for my late reply as i was out of the office for a short time. I looked at the bed model and decided the cleanest way of working with it is to open it in 3DS Max first and then export it as a drawing from there. (optional - Once the drawing is opened in AutoCAD, rt-click on it and convert the meshes to solids.) I then save the drawing and use it as a block to insert into your plan. As I indicated in your other thread, the units were a big concern for me. I measured the bed in AutoCAD and it measures correctly in Imperial architectural units.

Note, that working with such objects from 3DS Max are very large and can impact the performance of your drawing. You might consider being selective of the imported geometry. For instance, the rectangular objects might be better created in AutoCAD directly to keep your file size more reasonable.

Although you can't open a 3ds Max file with AutoCAD, you can insert other filetypes. To make your work less laborious, you should look into using the -DWGUNITS command (if its available). When I invoke it, it loads AEC modules. Choose your drawing units. Then choose your display format. Then choose your precision. Then answer the prompt: "Scale objects from other drawings upon insert? [Yes/No] <Yes>:" with a return or yes.

That way, if the files you are inserting have a units system saved, they will automatically scale.

Edit those files before inserting and use the units command to ensure the file's units are set properly.

An alternative is to just scale objects down by a factor depending on the difference between your units. For example shrink by a factor of 1/25.4, which is 0.0393701 to convert from millimeters to inches.

Addendum: Your house file has units of inches but is actually drawn in something closer to millimeters. the height of your wall, for example is 2682.2526 units high. That wouldn't make sense if the house is in inches (which the file units state). Nicely scrunched pillows and sheets in the 3ds file.
