Hi,

>> AutoCAD 2017 we have, and we save all .dwg files on 2010 file format.

It's not the best solution to save all drawing to old DWG formats!

Converts objects to old DWG formats AutoCAD has to convert that objects (so these dwg files can be opened to old AutoCAD's)

If you open such converted dwg files with AutoCAD 2017 the old geometries are again be converted to the new objects types.

That means save as well as open is slower (because of converting geometry types)

Always it's like puzzle, sometime opening such converted to old dwg formats opening such a file with newer AutoCAD might fail, hard to repair that.

My suggestion:

Save the drawing with the newest dwg format

If anyone needs an old dwg format, then use command _SAVEAS ... but do this only as a copy of the drawing,

That happens due to your chosen method of saving down.

Your 2017 users need to use AECTOACAD command to properly knock files down to 2010-format to avoid all issues.

If you only want to use the default-save-settings or SAVEAS command, your noted "sometimes" issue will happen and a 2017 user need to go back and fix that one file "sometimes" when it happens.

Hi @Anonymous,

In addition to the great suggestions already in this thread, I suggest that you keep everything in 2013 file format. Your 2010 users can use DWG Trueview/Design Review to convert the files to 2010 and even do entire folders at once. Realize though that loss of newer features doesn't help your 2017 users very much.

Of course your 2010 users are also using 8 year old software so it might be time to consider getting everyone on the same version. (operating system compatibility, driver compatibility, file versioning, etc) It might save enough time in the workflow to justify the upgrade costs. Just my two cents - I am not here selling anything.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

Autosave is meant ONLY to mitigate a catastrophic failure. It is NOT meant as a means of saving working files. Your autosave directory should never be your working directory, it should be a different directory, better yet a different drive all together.

In your OPTIONS dialog box under the "Open and Save" tab make sure all users have the "Save as" ACAD 2010.

Even though that option is there. It does not convert newer objects and features. You still get the message that the files contains objects created with a newer version. IMHO, that option should be removed or fixed. That is why converting the files with your chosen method is the proper way to do it.
