-autocad 2013-

I am new to this community so please bare with me.

I have a lot of dwg files that have a border file overlayed as an xref. The border file has grids. We have profiles xref'd into the grid area BUT the grids are ALWAYS on top of the profile line work and text and it shows up on plots the same way.

I can't find anything on the web that answers the question of how to make the border go behind/in back/under the border grid xref.

I have seen "plot paperspace last" and thought that was the answer only to find that the wipeouts that are already in the drawing now do not wipeout anything using this option. I have also seen suggestions on using lisp routines but I am not in the position to suggest that this company use 3rd party products.

I'm beginning to think autocad cannot do this.

Any ideas will be really appreciated.

Thank you

is it possible to take a snap shot and show us what you see please? and when you use send to back order in different place does it works or not?

Thank you for the quick response!

I have attached an image that I hope shows what I am dealing with. You will see the profile is behind/under the grid in the border xref.

Thank you again

does all of your xrefs attached in MODEL space?

Does this happened in both MODEL and LAYOUTS?

Have you tried all the draworder options? see attached

Yes, all of the xrefs are in model space ACCEPT for the border xref, it is overlayed in paperspace.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Does this happen in both MODEL and LAYOUTS?" I don't plot in Model space or put the border xref in model space.

Yes, I have tried everything but nothing will make the border xref go behind the profile or bring the profile in front of the border.

I thought the Layout tab (paperspace) was for using a border xref and is why we chose a Paper size, Plot area, etc.

I appreciate your insight however I am not in charge here.So I will advise the others of your input.

But it sounds to me like autocad cannot choose the order in which an xref is displayed,

i.e. making a grid (border file xref) be secondary to the relevant Profile xref.

Thank you anyway

Hi,

as i told previously you put all of your xrefs together in MODEL space and if you have a sheet frame you can attache it in LAYOUT.

Note:

your drawings need purge and audit.

Hi @Anonymous,

Normally I would put borders and such in Paperspace but since this actually has a grid that is tied to the geometry of your profile it should remain in the model (IMHO). Typically, I recommend any borders, notes, schedules, etc that are not tied to geometry be placed into paperspace.

Moving this into paperspace using CHSPACE should be relatively easy and should fix your display order problem.

Thanks again John V.

Are you saying to put the border grid into model space on top of the profile xref?

That seems to work but now I don't have a border with all of the project, sheet number, etc.

I can't attach the border again. I created another border file and xref'd it in but the new border is still on top of the xrefs. I thought I could put a wipeout in but how do I get GRID AND PROFILE xref to show?

Hi @Anonymous,

I was going to use your files as an example but the grid one has so many file errors I am unable to get it cleaned up.

At any rate, I suggest the following steps:

Create your titleblock linework along with any text, attributes, logos and such in a titleblock drawing.

In your master drawing, go to paperspace, xref your titlblock drawing and create/apply a page setup.

Now, create a viewport in the master drawing.

In another drawing, place your grid.

Insert/Xref your profile into this drawing and place it on the grid.

Now, xref this into your master drawing in modelspace.

Go to paperspace in the master drawing and set the scale for your viewport and then lock it.

First I want to thank everybody who took the time to help me out and the quick responses.

I feel like I opened a can of worms here.

I was hoping the solution would be quick and simple. This issue is in all of the projects I have worked on, I was just hoping I could find a fix for this.

John V. I appreciate your suggestions but I believe I will not be able to convince the project managers to go though with your latest recommendations on 50 to 100 dwgs. But I will keep it in mind for up coming projects.

So again thank you to you all who gave me your assistance!
