I agree on the processor. get a good one and good cooling system. and lots of memory

I prefer AMD Firepro cards, use a AMD 7100. i don't play the games so I can't say if AMD works well or not with games.

Nvidia makes good cards. I'd guess several hundred USD will get you a good card with 4k capability

My current work station came for the local computer builder at the end of the street. He and I researched parts and bought wher the prices were the best and he put it together. At that time it included an Intel CPU that was not on the market yet through his "connections." Don't ask - don't tell :)"

I put about $3k into the box and all the parts 3 years ago. works very good IMHO.

good luck

Looking for recommendations for a video card that will allow seamless function for use with AutoCAD 16 AND will also allow for fast paced gaming. My system specs are :
AMD 8 core 3.6ghz on an AS Rock Fatality mother board

16 gigs of ram

Windows 10 upgrade

250Ghz solid state HD for OS

3TB of storage

I like to play games such as CoD MW3, BO 2 and 3, etc. and am partial to the Invidia cards.

Please advise

2D or 3D, which is the primary use on your PC? that really matters.

AutoCAD does not take advantage of multi-core Processors. Better get an overclocked processor as close to 4ghz as possible.
16Gig RAM is low if you want a killer PC.
3TB drivers better be multiple 10k speed drives in a speed-configuration with very high Cache sizes.
Gaming requirements are not CAD requirements: which one needs to be the priority? Can't be both.

Which nVidia are you leaning towards?

How much money do you want to spend?

Primarily 2D for right now.

both are requirements as I use gaming to unwind from my day but I am willing to sacrifice on the gaming end of its use.

the hardware listed is what it will stay for now...overclocking is definitely an option... the 16 g RAm is all I could get on the mobo( at the time anyway. I can look into more)

I have a limited budget being a student.

I am not leaning to any particular card. I have had really good luck with Invidia

I suggest you contact BOXX and have them configure an ideal workstation/mobile WS for your needs, then shop those specs around
http://www.boxxtech.com/

Make sure you let them know all the software you use, keep in mind what everyone is saying here about processors.

To respond to your question, only workstation cards are certified by Autodesk. However, I've found the certification to be a joke the last few years at least, as even certified cards don't always work as expected or correctly and Autodesk doesn't stand by their certification.

I use computers with both pro and consumer cards and don't notice a difference between the two, although I do almost exclusively 2D work. If I were in your position, I'd get the gaming card I wanted. When you find one you like, you can ask on the forums if anyone else is using the same card and if it has any issues with AutoCAD.
