My preference would be to go with the one that offers more ram. Frankly 4GB of ram to start off really is not enough. You should at least go with 8GB and check to see if you can add 8GB more without having to pull out the 8GB you already have it in. Also, you didn't mention the type of hard drive. I would go with Solid State Drive (SSD). Anything else would be way too slow and you'll get frustrated every time you wait as you turn on your computer for it to slowly boot into Windows.

Area Object Link | Attribute Modifier | Dwg Setup | Feet-Inch Calculator
Layer Apps | List on Steroids | VP Zoom Scales | Exchange App Store

Hello,

I want to purchase a laptop to run AutoCAD softwares.

I am confused in between two models.

HP 15 AC179TX and Lenovo Ideapad 300 80Q700UEIN

HP has

Display 15.6" diagonal FHD anti-glare LED-backlit (1920 x 1080)

Memory, standard 4 GB DDR3L SDRAM (1 x 4 GB)

Max. RAM possible.

8GB

Lenovo Has:

DISPLAY

15.6" HD (1366x768), glare, 200 nits, 16:9 aspect ratio, 500:1 contrast ratio

MEMORY

4GB, PC3-12800 1600MHz DDR3L, non-parity, dual-channel capable, 2 x 204-pin SO-DIMM socket, 16GB max

max. RAM possible

16GB

---

If we consider future upgrades in Auto desk softwares,

HP laptop provides FHD resolution but can't be upgraded to more than 8 GB RAM.

Lenovo Laptop can be upgraded to more than 8 GB RAM but resolution is HD only.

So what to prefer , resolution or RAM ?

Any Suggestions are most welcome even with other budget laptop Models.

Thanks.

Thanks Paul,

Both Laptops are : i5 6th gen. (2.3 GHz.), 1TB Hard Disk - SATA, 2 GB dedicated Graphics Card (AMD)

My Budget is not that much to purchase SSD storage at the moment.

I am actually a fresher with AudoCAD. So I want to make sure that I can utilize my laptop with great extent for atleast atleast 2-3 years.

------

As per the Recommendations given here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-AutoCAD-2016.html

Display Resolution 1024x768 (1600x1050 or higher recommended) with True Color Memory For 32-bit AutoCAD 2016:

2 GB (3 GB recommended)

For 64-bit AutoCAD 2016:

4 GB (8 GB recommended)

Additional Requirements for Large Datasets, Point Clouds, and 3D Modeling

Memory 8 GB RAM or greater

Display Card 1600x1050 or greater True Color video display adapter; 128 MB VRAM or greater; Pixel Shader 3.0 or greater; Direct3D®-capable workstation class graphics card.

-------

So with this recommendations, it says RAM greater than 8 GB and Resolution greater than 1600x1050.

So as per your experience , I should go with that laptop that can accomodate RAM greater than 8 GB but it would not meet with the requirements of resolution. Would that be okay ?

Again Thanks in advance.

The Autodesk requirements are for the software to function, not necessarily to function well. If the program is using 4GB, then you'll still need RAM for the operating system, other programs, and probably for the on-board graphics card (unless you disable it and use only the dedicated card).

The 768 resolution height would be unbearable for me to model on. I think you're setting yourself up for a lot of frustration trying to 3D model on one of these two laptops.

Here is the link to the Autodesk Certified Hardware site: Certified Hardware

It is an excellent resource to do research before purchasing a new system or video hardware for an AutoCAD system.

You should also go there first for recommended drivers for your video card for AutoCAD after you purchase your system to make sure your video hardware functions well with AutoCAD.
