tema Associative dimensioning with xrefs en AutoCAD Forum

When using associative dimensions in paperspace, dimensions that are attached to elements in modelspace do change automatically when those elements change. However if I xref a file into modelspace and dimension xref elements in paperspace, when the xref changes the dimensions do not automatically adjust. Any ideas on how do I correct this?

Seems to work fine in Autocad 2016 SP1.

All Paper Space Dimensions created / set to "Associative=Yes".

System variable Dimassoc = 2

Save xref base

Command: XREF - Reload Xref base in Layout dwg

Command: DIMREGEN.

Is it possible that you're not editing / updating the "Associated objects" but rather creating new objects?

In other words, lets say there are to parallel lines drawn 10 units apart and they need to be 15 units apart.

If I offset one of the original lines 5 units in the xref base file and erase the original line which was offset, I've just broken the association and it will no longer update.

If I move or manipulate the original line, the association remains and updates as expected.

The elements that I am moving are blocks of steel shapes. and Dimassoc is set to 2. I just tested it and made sure that the dimension is snapped to the steel shape.

I did not test it with blocks, are these Dynamic Blocks which resize with various parameters, or are they being moved with the MOVE command?

After reloading the Xref, did you also try the command DIMREGEN?

They are not dynamic blocks. I also added dimensions using column centerlines in the xref but this did not work either.

Is it possible to run dimregen automatically? If a change is made to the xref and saved, then a file is opened will dimregen automaticcaly adjust the dimensions? Is there a way to run dimregen automatically when opening drawings?
