It is incorrect to compare SketchUp and an engineering CAD program. And it's best never to transfer old work experience to a completely different environment - you will only complicate your life and make learning painfully long. I advise you to forget everything and learn to model in AutoCAD from scratch. For example, starting with my 33 tips: https://sites.google.com/site/avcplugins/likbez

SketchUp if fabulously easy to use and master.
AutoCAD is not.
Both have the same abilities to output similar results in the end.

So, are you hoping for ease of use (AutoCAD is not there), or are you willing to roll up your sleeves for a learning curve ahead of output (worth it ultimately if you honestly cannot afford SketchUp's $299/yr for some reason)?

Buy the way, check this current-freeware for a possible third option https://www.bricsys.com/en-ae/bricscad-shape

TIA
