I tried to create a sheet set from 90 DWGs. It was successful and I loved the convenience of it!

but then I had to add 3 more DWGs. I tried to add them manually, but it's a hassle to rewrite the file name and reorder the files alphabetically, especially if I'm gonna add many files in the future. So I tried to make a new sheet set to include all 93. However, the new files were not showing in the wizard. I thought maybe it's a cache issue, so I added the files to a different folder, but only 83 (of 93) were showing. The files were on a server, so I thought maybe there's a sync issue, and so I copied them all to a folder on the desktop. Still only 83. How do I resolve this without manually adding every new DWG?

Thanks, I didn't realize that...

Is there a similar feature with the same functionality that would allow me to create sets without this limitation? in the sense that one drawing could be in a few sets at once?

From a document control perspective, you only ever really want a s 'single source of truth.' ... that said much of digital design is built around reusable content haha.

I would look into creating a "new" Drawing with the drawing you want to reference xrefed in.

I get what you're saying, however, you actually suggest the opposite from a single source of "truth"...

I was using this function also as a shortcut for another thing - Say, I can categorize my documents in several ways, although in the windows folders I can only organize them in one specific way. Each document can belong to several categories (but as you say, I want only one "source" and not 5 copies per 5 categories). If I want to publish all documents of a single category (to go through them) I would have to open all of them in AUTOCAD. That might be 100 documents for me, at a time. If I have files from many different folders in a single category, opening them all is hell (imagine having to go into 100 different folders). This function could allow me to publish a DWG/PDF of these 100 files without opening all of them first, and also lets me have an organized list of shortcuts per category to open the specific ones I do need to edit, prior to publishing, without the folder mess (if only it allowed adding a document to several sets).

If I want to publish documents belonging to a different category, which may have some overlap with the previous one, you suggest making a new document with the other one as an XREF, but then what happens is that the new one actually isn't the true source (if it was saved before an XREF is edited, will it be published with the changes in the XREF or without them?), and also whatever I link to isn't the original, so I can't use that as a shortcut to open the original either.

Do you know a function that can fit this purpose better than the sets?

I would just link to the original.

All that said, all of our work environments and workflows and restrictions are different. This may not be the solution you need. There are several times when something in our procedures derails the prefect solution and we just have to adopt a work around or find a new way of doing things. There are lots of fabulous tools (not just in the Autodesk tool box, we even have things in the Microsoft environment) That would solve 99% of our problems but that 1% sometimes is enough to sink the solution. Organizing a multi-stakeholder and diverse workflow can be an arduous task.
