Create a block with the "chainlink" look that you want. The block should have both the post and the fencing.

The fencing will repeat within an array - make the fencing a solid as long as the minimum length between adjacent posts. Set the array column offset to this minimum length.

Make an array for the posts as well setting the array column offset to the desired post interval.

As for the rails between posts, you have a couple of options - fixed lengths included into the post array, create the tubes as 3dfaces or sweep them along a path.

Hello. I am trying to determine if it is possible to stretch a 3D object similar to how you can stretch/array a dynamic block in 2D.

It seems there must be a way because for instance, creating a "railing" from the styles browser allows you to freely draw a 2D line that automatically converts to the 3D projection.

Hi,

It will be good to show us your item that you need to stretch ? You can use PRESSPULL command that may help .

So lets say I wanted to create a simple guardrail. Vertical I-beams spaced every 5' apart with some corrugated metal attached to the side. In 2D I have a dynamic block so that I can easily stretch the block and it auto-generates that block every 5'.

If I have a 3D object of this same block, I would like to have something in model space that I can drag/stretch/etc. so that for any given length I can easily duplicate those objects. Much like the railing in my photo.

I realize there are some preloaded guardrail already but my goal is to be able to use this drag function to place many custom 3D objects of alike distance away like a tree line, parking stops, etc. This would save me from having to create 3D objects/parts of a specific length for every instance I would like to place it.

Are we talking about AutoCAD or ...?

In your image I can see only a geometry which perhaps can be created using the array command or array action. But I'm not sure if I understand what you want to get. Which object do you want to stretch?

Because we can stop the guessing if you post a dwg example, what do you have and what do you want to achieve.

Let me try asking a different way. I have the attached file of a fence/railing. Let's say I want to change the rail to look more of a chain-link fence, meaning X's in between the main posts instead of the vertical pieces. How could I achieve that while maintaining the dynamic aspect of the fence auto-generating along the path line.

[I can't play with it in plain AutoCAD, but it seems to me the dynamic-ness of it all needs work -- who builds a railing or fence like that having a corner without a post?]

Please ignore my ignorance, but your request is still not clear to me.

Do you want to increase the distance between the posts and fill the space with additional geometry or do you want to change the geometry between the posts to fill the space between or ... ?

And also you did not yet answer the question which program you're using. The example above was obviously not created with plain AutoCAD. And in the case the geometry (their dimensions) should be changed it makes a difference if you have 3DSolids or Surfaces or (as in your example after exploding the AEC-object twice) 3DFaces or whatever.

Please post a (manually draws) example how looks your initial geometry and how should it look after "stretching".
