One more tip

The Parts row in our template is a dynamic block. This may be a problem for 2015. The block DOES NOT have to be dynamic. I set it up that way for ease of access to the different row types.

Also, note the instructions in the CAD standard file illustrate how to set up the parts row inside a sheetset package.

The technique described allows you to paste row find linked bubbles throughout any of the sheetset drawing, pretty much ACAD Mechanical behavior.

There is an issue with this process in that when the PDF output is created ALL the part rows appear in the PDF navigation. This is helpful sometimes but if you do not want access to individual parts on the document navigation pane you would make a duplicate TAB and remove/delete ALL the named views and include that sheet in the publish set and disable the other sheet from publishing. The original sheet is still where all the part bubbles get linked to.

And that my friend is how we get ACAD Mech behavior inside Vanilla ACAD

Hope That Helps You On Your Way

Best Regards

Tim C.

Hi

I want to automatically create Bom lists (parts lists) using autocad 2015. I know in autocad mechanical you could easily create a block and asign sizes and attributes, Then it would just output

In autocad do I have to create each block then add attributes and extract data or has it got the ability to recognise these attributes and simply export all data.

cheers

Extracting attribute information is an easy way to produce a schedule or bill of materials directly from your drawing data. check here all the story . >> Click <<

As mentioned in the first reply, it will involve attribute data extraction.

Once you have the data extracted you can perform a data import into a schedule "row block"

You will have the ability to individually select the row you want the data pushed into OR as part of the data extraction/import process you can setup a template.

To create a template you would setup your BOM schedule first ( all rows). Take the empty rows and perform a data extraction. This will capture each block handle of the individual row blocks.

Then You would take the exported data from all your blocks and copy it into the template spreadsheet.

THEN sheeeew here we go Import the data into the BOM and because ACAD will see all the block handles all the data will go into the table with a single click.

It sounds daunting, but it will take a morning to figure out.

See the attached template. I generally produce the parts list in a spreadhseet then import the data and click the block I want it to go into.

I think the info in the template is pretty complete. We have gotten so used to using the technique that we do not refer to the instructions any longer.

Look inside the CAD standard file too, there is a TAB that shows a condensed way of doing thigs.

Best Regards

-Tim C.
