Greetings everyone, first post. I am very new to AutoCAD, approximately 4 weeks in. I'm attempting to work on an assignment for school work, in which case we need to create a very basic Electrical Legend, using MTEXT. The problem that I'm running into is locating all of the appropriate electrical symbols. I've done a decent bit of searching, however most results end up pointing me to products that are not what I am using. I am using a licensed student version of AutoCAD 2018, and am coming up empty, and becoming extremely frustrated. Any help from the experts here would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Matt

Hello,

Correct, I am having a very difficult time figuring out how to locate and incorporate electrical symbols into an MTEXT field, unless of course there is an easier way to accomplish it. For example, if I create an MTEXT field, and click on my Symbols button, it will give me an Electrical Phase symbol, however that is for a single receptacle. I am attempting to find symbols for items like a duplex/double receptacle, GFCI receptacles, split wired receptacle, 220/440 receptacle, overall basic power and lighting symbols. In my searching, I've found people discussing a "Power and Lighting" tool pallette, however I cannot find where I would be able to add that to my existing pallette ribbon on the side of the workspace. Again, I am very new to AutoCAD. This is required course material for school, and due to a missed class (unexpected), I am virtually on my own to figure out the missed material. I really do have a strong desire to have an in-depth knowledge of AutoCAD, but this is very frustrating to not be able to find something.

you can start from Ctrl+3 ( ToolPalettes ) to find some Electrical symbols . also you can right click on the headlines to create a new palette if do you want . usually we don't insert symbols in the Mtext ( as i understand from you ) but we add the Mtext beside blocks or images that we insert .

Please ... keep going and ask till you find what you need .

There are some basic electrical symbols included in the tool palette, which I have browsed through in its entirety. The problem that I'm running into is the inclusion of basic symbols for power and lighting, that I feel should be included in the AutoCAD software. In class, we have not covered downloading and installing additional libraries of symbols, so surely these are items that should already have been downloaded with the software. This is going to be a long post, so please bear with me. My assignment for my AutoCAD class is to complete a basic Electrical Legend, that would include the following symbols:

110/120 Volt Duplex Convenience Outlet

110/120 Volt Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt Duplex Outlet

110/120 Volt Waterproof GFCI Duplex Outlet

110/120 Volt Split Wired Outlet

220/240 Volt Outlet

Junction Box

Cable Television Outlet

Clock Outlet

Door Bell

Single Pole Switch

Three-Way Switch

Ceiling-Mounted Light

Wall-Mounted Light

Fluorescent Light

Circular Recessed Light

Square Recessed Light

Light, Fan Combination

Light, Fan, Heat Combination

Ceiling-Mounted Smoke Detector

Wall-Mounted Smoke Detector

This task is assigned from a provided list of problems within the AutoCAD 2018 Textbook, showing the appropriate symbol next to each line, however the corresponding chapter discusses nothing regarding how to add symbols, outside the use of the symbol dropdown from the text editor. I have a licensed student version of AutoCAD 2018, 2019 and 2020, none of which include the Electrical Toolset, which the AutoCAD website claims is now included with the software. I'm just completely lost, and it is becoming extremely frustrating.
