Grayed out Projects

Last week students started to report that the projects in their data tab we grayed out and they were unable to open them. They can access My Resent Data and the files will open, but they cannot access file for the projects folders. It happened to all the students as once. My account, dose not have this problem. Students using personal machines also do not seem to have this issue as well. The student machines and my are on the same network, with different restrictions.

Hi @sseacrist

Sounds like your IT Admin may have changed a network setting for the students permissions. Please ask your IT Admin to review the following to ensure the network ports, domains, and proxy server options are set correctly

You can also work with a students computer and login and try changing the Network setting in Fusion. On the top-right corner of the screen click on your initials / profile picture and click Preferences. On the left column, click on Network. Then change the options, you may need to restart Fusion for these changes to take effect.

IT is working on it... Their first thought is the student machine are not on the latest version. Also it also appears to be effecting different year students differently, Freshmen, no issue, but Sophomores have the issue. It does not help that our head network guy is out sick.

OK, let us know how things go. Sometimes a simple test you can do if you have access on one of your computers to do this is to connect to a different network like a home network or tether to a phone as a hotspot. Then you can check to see if there are any changes and use that as a test to see if it might be an internal network issue.

Another thing you could try would be to go to fusion.online.autodesk.com and login with your Fusion account and run Fusion in a browser. That would be the latest available version of Fusion and would help to narrow down your issue as well. Chrome is the preferred browser for doing this.

Can you check if updating to latest version (if not already on it) would resolve this issue?

You can go into Help- check for update. If that does not show an update , go to Help - support and diagnostics - Fusion service utility and do a repair. This should take you to the newest version 2.0.18460.

Hi @sseacrist

To add onto what @geethapriya.shetty and @kellings have suggested, if Fusion was installed with the Lab install process, Fusion will needed to be updated in a different method. Please give the following link to your IT Admin to follow January 29, 2024 – Autodesk Fusion Update is Now Available.

As @kellings suggested, if your students can run Fusion online from https://fusion.online.autodesk.com this would tell us if the issue is linked to an old version installed on the computers.

This issue is still not resolved. The DO locks down my lab, and of course the IT person is out all week on vacation. The IT people insure me this will be his first priority on Monday AM. Unfortunately, I can do little more then restart computer. All the machines are desk top on a wired network, so no wifi. I plan to show the techs this stream when they get here Monday AM. Hopefully all your comment will help them "fix" the problem.

I change up the lesson so we are not using Fusion this week. Next week we will be back on fusion no mater what, but we are starting a new lesson, so they do not need past projects.
