I am struggling with my students being able to upload a library of tools I have created for them to use. For most, they upload the library when they are creating a machine path and select the tool they wish to use, when they next open the design there is only that tool in the list of tools available, the rest have disappeared and they have to upload again. On my account the tools are always there. I wondered if there is a setting in school that is refreshing the local folder or is it the fact they might be working on different laptops? Is there a way for me or the IT tech to link to a tool library automatically?

On one student the library is listed but there are no tools - no idea what is going wrong here!

Hi @Andy_Marston I think I can help clear things up. Tools can either live in a document, or they can come from a tool library. If tools are created or copied to a document (the part you are programming), then those tools are only available in that document.

You will see that there are two possible tool library locations. You can store tools in a local tool library, or a cloud tool library. Note that the cloud tool library isn't on by default and you have to enable that option before the cloud library location will be available as shown in this screenshot.

Typically a user will create a tool library. Then when programming, select the tools from the tool library. When the tool is selected, it is copied to the active document. Instead of your students coping the tool library to their part, I recommend they create a cloud library, or a local library where the tools are stored and can be accessed for any future parts.

You can also create a Team cloud library so that any member of the team has access to the library and you don't have to email the tool libraries to each student.

Let me know if you need me to clarify anything.

Thanks,
Kevin

Just note, currently, folder permissions can't be placed on the assets folder (where cloud libraries are stored). So you will want to keep back ups of your tool libraries in case any students modify the cloud tool libary instead of editing the libary for an operation.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for this. I think I have been partially successful in that students are able to upload the library to their cloud but not see the one I have uploaded. It's not a big problem as they now have the tools available without having to upload them each time.

Thanks for your help.

Andy

The whole group ticked to enable cloud libraries but not were able to. I thought it worked with a student in a different group but I can't remember which one! The Fusion online access hasn't ever worked though I haven't tried recently. I assume that there is an issue with the settings in school which is blocking access and perhaps this is the same issue.

I had significant problems last year when the new IT tech messed up the settings and prevented students from saving their work - perhaps they are still not right? (The guy was subsequently sacked as he messed up all sorts)

In our class we are all in a school team to do projects. So the teacher can review at all times. But like Kevin said you cant share asset folders - like tools, machines, Post processors. so we created a share directory in teams that has the needed downloads. Tools and Cam Post. The students download what's needed and then up load in there single team assets. So we supply them with all the same machine and tools - so we all should have same results

Thanks for your input. Yes, that's pretty much how I have set up mine but each time they want to change tools they are having to upload the library. I have set them a task where they are experimenting with different tools to see the effect and judge which is the best tool to use for the design they have chosen and it is quite tiresome to keep uploading the library. Also, many of them have minimal resilience so are more than happy to give up and I'm trying to take away the excuses!

We're aware that Folder-Level Projects don't currently work with the Assets folder. When members role is set to Project Contributor at the Team level. I don't have a delivery date, but the team is working on this.

In the meantime, there are a couple things you can do.

You can change the role of your students at the Team level to Team member. Note that a Team Member has expanded privilege's over a Project Contributor. Here is a link to an article that explains Fusion Team Roles and how to change them.

You can copy your CAM data in a folder, and then assign your students the Reader role for this project.

Hope this helps.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll leave the roles as they are. The set up works really well and seems quite secure, I trust the group I'm working with but they do some very odd things on computers and I worry I'll spend a lot of time archiving projects they have randomly created. On that note, I created a folder for each year group and then sub-folders within those for each class and then each student. All is mostly well with this except for one which was visible to all the students (they don't have reader access) and when I tried to archive it to start again it wouldn't go so is still visible - any ideas?

I'm waiting for my IT tech to get back to me about the settings - I'll let you know about the tool libraries.

Hi Andy,

A few questions around the archived project.

When you archive this project, do you get an error?

In your Fusion Team, does this archived project show in your list of Archived projects ?

Can you confirm that this project is in your Team and you are the owner?

What is the name of the project?

Thanks,

1 When I click on archive I get a message to warn me of the consequences but when I accept them it does nothing at all.

2. No, not in there!

3. It's in my Team and I created it but it doesn't allow me to make any changes. I just checked and I can't change any of the folders eg delete, all options are greyed out.

4. 2020 Entry

Hope this helps!

My IT Tech has made some changes to the settings so now some of my students can upload the library to the cloud but some can't - getting there!

Hi @Andy_Marston

Thanks for the additional information.

Could you also try logging in your Fusion Team from your home computer and internet and try deleting the project? This would eliminate any possible school computer, network or internet restrictions.

I'll also create a case and have the engineering team look into where the issue is.

Thanks,
