Hi,

I'm having trouble with developing a rotary toolpath to mill a turbine blade. Ideally, i'd like a constant stock engagement angle just off the centre of the tool. I know that rotary doesn't allow you to set a pitch or lean angle but you can use the tool offset setting to avoid using the centre of the tool. Whatever i try the toolpath always involves the tool dragging or pushing creating gauging when i machine the part. Is there any way to fix an angle or are there more suitable toolpaths to achieve my goal?

Many thanks,

Sam

Hi @sam.hutchinsonMYNFJ Can you post the Fusion file for this one? If you can, that would be great. just to confirm, you are limited to 4 axis, correct?

Othere]wise give me a bit. I believe there is a way to do what you want but I need to remember the serifs again. I’ll be back with an update shortly on what I remember for this.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! This sounds really promising. No we have a full 5 axis machine (Mazak Variaxis i500).

This is the f3z file for the project.

Thanks again for helping!

Hi Kevin.

I'm honestly fine with either 4 or 5 axis being used. Ultimately I'd like to use a pretty small ball end to finish the part and be able to lean or offset the tool to avoid cutting on the centre. In my mind this would have been through rotating the part, the tool normal to surface but leading or leaning. If there are other strategies that can be used I'm happy to try them out.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

Sam

Hi @sam.hutchinsonMYNFJ I'm attaching a file that has a couple of toolpaths that we have talked about via private message. As I said in my message to you, you will need the most current release of Fusion to be able to open and review this file. That update is scheduled to happen on Monday July 24th. You won't be able to open the file until after the update scheduled for Monday July 24th is updated on your computer. You will also need to go to your preferences and under the Manufacture preview section, you will need to enable the Geodesic toolpath option.

Once the update hits and you are on the latest version, you will then be able to open this file.

Thanks,
