Using a custom stock for manufacture

So I have a type of hex nut shape without the threading (see shape), when I use this part in manufacture, the only stock that I can use is either square, cylindrical or a hollow hex bar. I want to model the stock as a solid hex bar and machine it down to the desired shape. Please help

To do so, you need to create a solid model of the stock, and then select "From Solid" in your setup (selecting that model, of course)

I understand that I can create the part from a solid hex
Isn’t it possible to use a solid hex for the stock and then just machine
the specific part out, because it’s much easier that way

There is no "Hex" option in the stock options, just Box, Cylinder and Tube

Step one: create your model, the one you're machining

Step two: create a second model, one that represents your stock shape (in this case, a Hex)

Step three: Create a Setup, selecting your actual model in the Setup

Step four: On your Stock selection, select the model of the Stock that you created

Should the hex model be extruded or only the flat shape.
And should the 2 models be on the same design sheet

Yes. You need to have an 3D body and your part needs to be inside of that 3D body.

I have done it, but it then takes both parts and rotates around a random
point

Would you be able to upload your file here? You can either right click on the file in the data panel and choose share link and then make sure to tick the option to allow the file to be downloaded, or export the file as a .f3d Fusion archive file and attach that here. Thanks, Kevin
