Is this an intentional change, was there something wrong about having that little red dot sitting up top right on my menu?

I can still access the Screencast, that's not an issue. Convenience of it is 🙂

Yes it's intentional. It's a sharing tool and belongs with other sharing tools. The effort is to clean up the UI and cut down on inconsistent things like random red buttons in the interface. I'm pretty sure this was mentioned in the what's new when it happened, which for Fusion 360 is required reading every release.

I'm looking at the What's New (which I read all the time) and I'm not seeing it.

One click was easier than three 😄

I see we can't bind it to a key. Any plans on improving on that?

For me, the reasoning is incomprehensible.

Screencast has become an indispensable tool, especially for the many beginners and changers.

Why is AD throwing stones at her path?

Ultimately, I wonder how the button affected the interface.

My opinion: Bring the button back there, possibly in a new design.

I was wondering if removing the button is especially useful for newbies and changers.

Basically this would be a task for developers and programmers.

As a reaction I am informed 2 times in the forum by @Phil.E and additionally with private message by @karina.harper that the function is to be found now elsewhere.

My arguments are not dealt with, except for the hint that a red dot is disturbing.

I interpret this to mean that an exchange of content in the forum is not desired.

Well, the button would have only been visible for those that CHOSE to install the screencast recorder, right? As a trial, I shut down Fusion and uninstalled Screencast from my computer. Open up Fusion, and the option to launch Screencast is still there, but it now brings me to the download site. Perfect! So I can now instruct others on how to download this (imo) essential addon very easily. Installing it was as simple, of course.

I guess I see the improvement of having the button direct to the store. I just don't see any improvement on removing the icon. Even with dozens of Fusion files open, nothing is impacted by having it there.

I'm curious if another button could be made with the API but placed in the toolbar...

There are shortcut keys, the default is Ctrl+F9, F10, F11. I've changed mine to Shift so it doesn't change Fusion's state while using Shift+F11 to get a screengrab.

Thanks for all the passionate responses. I was wondering if I could get your feedback on alternate solutions.

For Windows, you can pin the Screencast icon to the task bar:

Right click on the desktop icon and pin to taskbar

On Mac, the icon is always in your top menu bar.

The icon is the dot inside the circle

Are these two options going to work for you? We'd love to hear your feedback about them.

Some Autodesk developer though, "Hmmmm, if I added a red button that directly launched Screencast, right at the top of the window where it doesn't interfere with anything, that will make the users' experience just a tiny bit easier." And he did it. And he was right. And the users were happy.

Then somebody, either that developer or his superior, decided it wasn't a good idea, and so the developer took the red button back out. And the users' experience got just a tiny bit harder. And they were unhappy. And the decision was dumb.

I use windows but have the task bar set to auto hide, when screencast is running it stops the taskbar from unhiding so you have to press the windows key that also pops up the start menu then you have to mouse over the screencast icon and select the correct window to get to the screencast dialog.

Mouse over gives this while recording a screencast.

So a lot more effort than before and even more trouble if you want to pause then carry on.
