This is a reoccurring problem. If I ever use hatch early in a drawing my AutoCAD get very unstable. It tries to hatch the whole drawing at every opportunity even when I am not using hatch as a current command. Anyway, I deleted the hatch and it is still unstable and trying to hatch everything. I tried REGENALL after deleting the hatch but that didn't work. How do I stop the hatch from constantly messing up?

Hi Maxim, Here is a screenshot of what AutoCAD does when I hover over the drawing. It puts a hatch over the whole thing even though I deleted the hatch. The only way to get rid of this is to press escape. When I go to extend any line in the drawing it stops as though the whole drawing is hatched. I have AutoCAD for Mac 2023. Mac version 10.15.7

Hi Sharon,

From your screenshot I see that you are using HATCH command, but in the first post you wrote: "It tries to hatch the whole drawing at every opportunity even when I am not using hatch as a current command."

So the problem is different. Am I correct?

When you use HATCH command with "Pick points" option active, AutoCAD always tries to detect a closed boundary and fill it with hatch. This is the standard behavior. If AutoCAD starts to find closed boundary before you pick point inside such boundary, just if you hover mouse over it, you need to check HPQUICKPREVIEW system variable and turn it OFF if it is turned ON.

I tried following along, and to be honest, I'm still not sure what your issue really is all about. Your explanations are not detailed enough to follow along and there is a lot of repetitions about "hatch keeps coming back" plus "AutoCAD is still hatching" which means nothing to anyone here judging solely by the 109 views so far.

Restart your MAC. Open any other DWG file, or even start a new DWG file, and try to replicate this issue while recording yourself in a video for all of us to follow along visually if the problem continues so we can see what you see.

if you don't know how to record yourself in a video, let us know. No more static screenshots please.

TIA

Obviously, I am new to AutoCAD problems. AutoCAD seems to have many problems. If I am not giving you the right information in the form you want, you just need to let me know what you need. I am doing the best I can. This is what happened.

1) Opened a drawing and attached an xref.

2) I added a drawing layer and started to use the xref as a guide.

3) Tried to add a hatch for areas with brick. Once I did that every time I put my cursor over the drawing the whole drawing was hatched. I had to press escape to get out of it. I finally deleted the hatch but it didn't fix the problem. Every time I hover my cursor over the drawing the hatch shows up. I cannot use trim or extend very well because the drawing acts like there is a small invisible hatch. I guess it is still looking for closed boundaries and I cannot get it to stop.

4) I refreshed the drawing and that didn't help.

Well I fixed it! I copied only some of the line work from the drawing to another location and it did not include the xref. I was able to delete the original, plus I got rid of the hatch problem. I copied with basepoint. Thank you for your help. I am good now.
