I think I figured it out, but I'm not sure if there is a simpler way. I took the bottom half of the sliced side and sliced all four vertical edges off of the model. Then I placed a 1/8" sphere at the top corner of each of the prisms I created and subtracted the spherical portion from the prism corner. I then used UNION on the prisms and joined them back to the main part. I have attached screen shots. If there is an easier way to do this, I would love to know. Thanks again for your help.

Chamfer Edge Inquiry

Good morning all,

I am trying to chamfer a specific length of an edge on a box, about 1 inch in length from the corner. I am having trouble finding a way, if there is one, of doing this. I either have the option to chamfer an entire edge, or the edge around a complete loop. Is it possible to do what I'm trying to do?

Hi Dale,

>>>>>I would like to chamfer around the top edge, front and back, and down 1 inch on the side as indicated by the dimension.

If you want to chamfer only part of the detail, you can slice it in two parts with SLICE command, create chamfer on the edges you need, then use UNION command to combine two parts.

See attached drawing.

Thank you again, that worked. However, now I have a new issue. Because the chamfer stops abruptly, I now have a protruding corner. Is there any way to blend this out? Imagine using a router on this edge and it ends smoothly with a concave round. I have attached a 2D drawing to illustrate my meaning.

>>>>Is there any way to blend this out?

You can create four 3D Solids and SUBTRACT them from main detail.

I recommend you to create them using LOFT command with one cross section + point and use Guides - guide curves that control the shape of the lofted solid:

Then you place these solids in the right places and subtract them from the main part.

See also attached drawing with sample of lofted 3D Solids
