Ok, but the resolution of thumbs is saved IN the file, so with Autocad 2017 all my thumbs was in high resolution.

After installing Autocad 2019, the first things I noticed is that all my thumbs was in low resolution.

It's illogic, because I haven't open that files and I haven't resaved them with new version.

And now, if I want all my thumbs in hi res again, I must open all my files and save them with THUMBSIZE > 5...?

Why in the new version of Autocad for Mac 2019, if I preview a dwg file in Finder with Quick Look I see a low resolution image. In the 2017 version I had hi res images.

What's the problem?

Regards

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi

Quick Look uses thumbnail preview stored inside DWG file to show quick view in Finder.
To get better Quick Look resolution you can adjust two System variables in AutoCAD:
THUMBSIZE2D and THUMBSIZE.
Try to set them as follows:
THUMBSIZE2D=1
THUMBSIZE=5 (or even more, maximum is 8)
Now save drawing and use Quick Look.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-96AD0C40-535F-46E2-AF88-089AD9299C0B-htm.html

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-E295F164-A540-4B4A-9844-6159CC91BF89-htm.html

Thanks,

This works, but the links you posted are for windows, form mac there are oly 3 possible values for THUMBSIZE:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-for-mac/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2019/ENU/AutoCAD-MAC-Core/files/GUID-E295F164-A540-4B4A-9844-6159CC91BF89-htm.html?st=thumbsize

But despite of this, I can set other values over 2, as you described.

The thing I can't undestand is:

if the thumbs are saved in the DWG file, why after migration from Autocad 2017 to Autocad 2019 all the thumbs of my files had a low resolution? I haven't re-saved them with Autocad 2019...

That is because of THUMBSIZE2D variable, which was introduced in 2018.1 version. The default value 0 of this variable sets maximum size for thumbnails to 256 pixels, if you set it to 1, then you can set thumbnails for 2D Wireframe visual style with THUMBSIZE SysVar.
...And looks like Help documentation is wrong, in fact you can set THUMBSIZE up to 8.

AC 2019 has its own new Quick Look plugin for DWG file format and after you install 2019 version Quick Look uses this plugin.

You can check it by executing:

qlmanage -m

in the Terminal app.

Maybe that can explain this. But I'm not sure, because I'm not a developer - I'm ordinary AutoCAD user, just like you are.
