when trying to save autocad menu has issues. at first it doesn't show where you can change the format, then when you expand it shows it but cuts the screen.

Hi,
Please specify your macOS and AutoCAD versions.
The glitch could appear because of incompatibility between macOS and AutoCAD.

I have not experienced this on my Mac. Do you have your AutoCAD fully updated to AutoCAD 2016.5 Update?
