I have no idea what you mean by "gap", but separate layers settings in each of the viewports is the only way to achieve what you want I believe.

Hi,

We are trying to standardize a few things in our practice so that our drawings are clearer. One of those is the Key in the paper space.

Is it feasible in some way to modify the visibility of the paper space key dependent on what is visible in the model space?

So for example in our Small Power Plans, we have the icons (blocks) of different items and their text descriptions to the side. Is there a way to show/hide the items in there depending on what is visible in the drawing?

My initial thinking as workarounds we could achieve this either

- through a Visibility State and have a range of options with some on / off. (however, I may end up with 480 odd variations which I really don't want to set up)

- to separate each item onto its own layer and hide/freeze them accordingly (however, then I will have a lot of gaps in the key instead of a nice neat list)

- if their loose blocks in a key this may take some time to move around and may mean some drawings have the key items, not in the same position

Does anyone have any ideas of a better way this could be done?

Attached PDF Example.

You can freeze/thaw layers inside viewports independently of layer settings in other viewports and modelspace: If your organized well with enough layers I believe this is what you want to do/use.

if not, it make be time to get more layers into your drawings as you noted you are willing to do.

Post back if you get stuck somewhere.

Hi Dean,

Thankyou for your reply. Yes i thought that might be the way to do it, the draw back is that if say i have the same layer for the two blocks (Model space/ paper space) and one is frozen. I will just have a gap in my paper space key? would there be a way to re-shuffel these items so there are effectively no gaps?

If that makes sense?

Thanks

Tom

HI @Anonymous,

Is it possible to make your legend a block? Then insert it into paperspace. If you redefine the block it should change for every instance.

This way you can add/eliminate/reorder and when you save the block it gets updated everywhere in the drawing.
