Scale drawing to 1:25 on A4

Hi there,

I am new to AutoCAD and trying to teach myself. I am having a confusing time with understand how to scaling a drawing and wondering if someone could help me.

I am currently trying to complete an assignment for an Interior Design course.

The project is a plan, drawn in millimetres. I need to scale the drawing to 1:25 on an A4 page.

My current settings are:

Units in model space to millimetres (See Image 1)
Scale in model space in 1:1
There wasn't a 1:25 scale in the menu so I created it (I think!) (Image 2)
When I switch to layout, I can see my drawing in the viewport but the viewport scale is 0.000790 (Image 3)
When I try to switch the viewport scale to 1:25, it zooms so far in you can no longer see the plan on the paper

Please excuse the unfinished plan but I just wanted to take some time to figure out how to scale it for printing.

I would be most grateful if anyone can provide help on where I have gone wrong and how to correct my settings.

Hi Rebecca,

Are you sure the plan will fit on A4 paper at 1:25 scale?
What exactly is the size of the plan in real world units (millimetres for example)?

Hi Maxim,

I've been given survey notes of a living room plan. Everything has been measured in millimetres. (See Image 1)

Project is to draw up plan on A4 paper to a scale of 1:25 with a key and title block at the side.

Hi yes! That is what I need!

What settings did you do to get that? My plan seems to disappear when change the scale to 1:25

Please could you walk me through what you did?

the position of the viewport is not always right above your drawn object in model space.
I first zoom out with zoom extent and then I go to scalefactor and then set the viewport to 1:25.
If the object is not completely within the viewport then you can use PAN to move the viewport.
Note: double-click in the viewport to use the Scale factor and Pan.
Then double click next to the viewport to go out.

Thank you for your help and replies.

Unfortunately, despite zooming out, setting the viewport scale and a lot of panning, I couldn't even find a wall as it seem to have enlarged so much. The only way I could see my plan at all was "scale to fit" which put the viewport scale in decimal points.

It only worked after I changed the page setup settings. For some reason, the scale there was set to something like 1mm = 0.0039 unit.

Once set to 1mm = 1 unit, the viewport scaled properly and my plan is now in 1:25.
