I tried your workflow with double clicking DWT file on my side and AutoCAD created new drawing. So it behaves the same way as when I use NEW command to create new drawing in AutoCAD.

Maxim

I'm setting up some new templates for my new work. In my previous job we used .dwt templates to ensure that nothing on that template gets overridden without manually going into the .dwt and saving it.

Now creating a .dwt is fine. However when I then open up the template and draw in model space and save it just automatically saved as a .dwt. Now my old templates were set up that each time you drew onto the new drawing it would automatically save as a .dwg, even though you had to open a .dwt.

Have I missed some steps to achieve this setting? Or does it not exist on Mac?

Thanks

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi,

When you want to start new drawing you don't need to open DWT file directly, instead you should use NEW command which allows to select the template you need and creates new DWG file "Drawing XX" which you need to save. So DWT files stays untouched.

Maxim

Thanks Maxrim.

However in my old place we did used to just click on the .dwt file in a shared saved location if we were starting a drawing with a different theme etc. Then is would save as a .dwg once you did this action?

That's why i wondered if there was a way round it?

>>>...However in my old place ...<<<
>>>...Or does it not exist on Mac? ...<<<
Was your old place using MAC versions of AutoCAD? I assume not, right?

As a general rule in an office with more than one drafter, the CAD manager would place files that are never to be overwritten in a folder on the server with no access to edit or replace for anyone other than themselves. That might be a good thing to do at your new office, chat with your IT folks so they can set up that group policy.
