Characters missing when typing fast in MTEXT

I have a problem where when I am annotating drawings in MTEXT where character do not register as I type them. This seems to be most commonly, but not exclusively, after a space (i.e first letter of a new word) and is especially the case when I am typing quickly. This problem does not present in any other program or even in the command line within AutoCAD. Only in MTEXT.

As an example, a note such as ...

"Hardwood decking over supporting structure to match chalets. Structure to Eng's detail."

Will type as ...

"Hardwood ecking ver supporting tructure o match halets. Structure o Eng's etial." (This was typed in MTEXT as an example).

It is very annoying. I am using AutoCAD for Mac 2015 and have reinstalled it twice to no avail.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

I cannot reproduce the issue on my side.
Does this happens with all fonts (text styles with different fonts) from your system?
Do you have some third parity keyboard manager installed on your Mac?
What if you will type the text in some other application (text editor) than copy it to clipboard and use "Paste" from context menu in MTEXT command?

Thanks for reporting the issue. I am able to reproduce it. It seems that inputting a space takes a little longer than other characters, and it eats the next input if typing very fast. I have logged the issue to the product development team. We will try to have it fixed in future update.

It would seem so. I have just spent some time experimenting with different text styles and it presents in all cases.

I could do this however it would be extremely inefficent. As it stands I simply type slowly and this gives the software time to register all the characters, however this too is cumbersome. It appears that the computer doesnt have enough resources to compute the typing which is bizare given that it is a top spec 2013 retina MBP.

What tips would those be? All I see in that link is a mention of a hotfix update coming out that seemed to solve the problem for the original poster.

It does not, however, solve the problem for an additional poster or for a lot of the rest of us. I have logged this same problem myself with Support quite some time ago, with the end result that Support was also able to recreate the problem and that they were submitting it to Development for correction, thus allowing the support file to be closed. This was way back in the first part of the year, probably January, since that is when I made the post above.

There have been several updates since then, none of which has had any affect on the issue. I am fully up to date, with the latest version of AutoCAD LT for Mac. We are approaching TWO YEARS on this issue.

So when can we expect this (or any of the other issues I have raised with Support that have supposedly been forwarded to Development) to finally be addressed?

The several support people I have dealt with have all seemed very good. They ask pertinent questions, they request pertinent information and example files so that I feel like they are really understanding the problems I present to them. Sometimes, they are able to provide work-arounds or other suggestions to minimize the impact of whatever problem has come up.

When they fully understand the issues, they then submit the information to the Black Hole of the Development team, close the Support file, and the issue goes.... nowhere. What gives in Development? There have been Hatch problems that have existed unchanged for the full 20 years I've been using the software professionally, that have never been addressed. I had work-arounds, but got fed up and submitted my own support request on those 8 months ago. I submitted my support request on this above problem of dropping characters following spaces 9 months ago. I have submitted support requests on things so simple as a list box being loaded with layer names UN-sorted and WITHOUT the current layer pre-selected more than a year ago. That's something any computer science student learns to do not just in the first semester, but probably the first week of class. What could be more simple to fix? Yet more than a year later, there has been nothing done on that. So again, what gives in Development???

And for the specific problem at hand, the dropping of characters, what tips did you have in mind? Rereading the entire thread that you linked to, the only advice I found was to make sure your system is fully updated, which is an obvious first step to most of us. Did I miss something there? If you've got something more helpful than that, how about a more specific link to that?

3-6 months and an update or two I can live with. 12 months and 20 months and multiple version cycles not so much.

Sometimes it responds better than others. Right now it is actually doing quite well and can almost keep up. Sometimes, I have to go REALLY slowly to not have it omit letters. System resources would be an obvious source for a problem like this, but I have all the same stuff open right now that I always do, so not sure why it should be doing better.

I have reopened problems in the past, and received the same result: it has already been sent to Development, so we just need to wait for an update that addresses it. You are right, of course, it is time to do so yet again.

It's pretty crazy that this is still unresolved, as something as fundamental as being able to type properly should be considered a basic standard that must be met. I am interested to know why there isn't more complaints about it to be honest. Makes me wonder if it is not a user-specific issue and whether or not there are not contributing factors to it. Either way some feedback from AutoCAD would be helpful.
