Hi @jsclage,

I opened @maxim_k's file in AutoCAD 2016 and it behaved fine. Another suggestion I might offer is to crop off the parts of the image you don't need. For instance, if you don't need the titleblock or notes, trim them off so as to reduce the image size.

I too am interested in the specs for your computer. Can you attach a screen capture of the Overview from "About this Mac"?

I am running on AC LT for the Mac 2015.

a pdf underlay inserted into my dwg file is reeking havoc. it slows down the cursor, the content of the inserted pdf constantly blinks off when i execute a command. even something as simple as a zoom in/out command slows down performance.

anything i can do to improve the performance?

i have attached the drawing with this pdf insert.

Hi John,

You forgot to attach the main part - PDF file itself.

Do you really need to attach the document in PDF format? Maybe converting PDF to raster image with high resolution and attaching it to your drawing would be enough?

Maxim

Sorry, I don't have an opportunity to test your drawing now, but Iooks like the PDF file is just a scanned copy (raster image "packaged" in PDF format).
So my advice is to convert it to raster image format, such as JPG, and attach that JPG raster image instead of PDF.

Maxim

Hi John,

Yes, performance is low when working on a PDF underlay. We are continuing improving performance in new releases. Maybe you can try in 2017.1.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you so much for your comments. knowing that even autodesk's products
have drawbacks boosts my spirit.

notes.
1 I would like to have AutoCAD 2017 on my machine, except due to stark
budgeting decisions, 'veI let my subscription lapse.
2 it would be helpful for me to run AutoCAD 2016--which I assume was a
release. In 2016. my subscription was still in effect part of that year.
3 An earlier commenter suggested I work with a jpeg formatted file instead
of a pdf one. I followed thru on that suggestion, but I see little
performance difference.
Try to set image quality to Low after you insert raster image - menu Modify->Object ->Image->Quality.
This should boost the performance.

Maxim

Hi John,

What hardware do you have? I mean what Mac model?

I'm asking, because I tried to attach raster image (which I created from your PDF file) and it works fine on my Mac in AC 2015 with Low raster image quality settings.

I attached DWG with raster image attached to it. Can you try it on your Mac?

Hi Maxim,
Thanks for your note.
I have an iMac, but I am running AutoCAD 2018 on a Windows 7 Professional
platform.. [Actually I have the Mac version of AutoCAD LT installed also,
but I've not worked on this particular .dwg file from the Mac side].

*An important note. *I partitioned my hard drive, which allows both Mac OS
X and Windows 7 to reside in my hard drive.
Attached is a screenshot showing computer hardware info.

I received a note from Autodesk a few days ago acknowledging that pdf
insert features are not the greatest, and that their IT staff is working to
improve AutoCAD.
