Hi,

This is knowing issue with Preview app on macOS since Yosemite.

In case when you are viewing PDF file (created in AutoCAD with searchable text feature enabled) in Preview application on Mac you will see "double" text.

Searchable text feature was introduced in AutoCAD 2016 for Windows and than in AutoCAD 2017 for Mac.

There are two workarounds:

- view PDF files on Mac with Adobe Reader - than you will not see "double" text

- turn off searchable text feature by setting AutoCAD System variable EPDFSHX=0. Than searchable text will not be created in PDF and text, ctreated with SXH based Text Style will look correctly.

Hello- I am trying to solve this problem. I have already switched pdf options in all variables, to change the text to geometry, etc. The result is always the same. When I plot DWG to PDF in plot style, the resulting image in Preview on Windows side looks good, when I open it in Preview on Mac side, the text shows double, written twice in 2 different fonts, the original font and a smaller, different version. And TrueType Font does not show up at all on the Mac PDF.

attachment included

I'm a Mac-using architect, we've had this issue a very long time with Autocad-generated PDF files coming from consultants. The workarounds you list are not solutions, just workarounds. I'd like to know if somebody has found a solution to the issue. We are currently on OSX 10.11 ElCapitan, but if the issue is solved in a later OSX edition I'd happily upgrade.

Please note:

If you use the Finder's Quicklook feature, the files render correctly like in Adobe Reader (but they cannot be printed that way). So this is a Mac Preview-specific problem. Since there are a lot of other advantages in using Preview instead of Reader, we'd like this to work. It isn't practical to expect the consultants to give up the searchable text feature.

@maxim_k wrote:

Welcome to Autodesk Forums!

Hi Thomas,

The issue with Preview is still here and I understand that you cannot force consultants to turn off "searchable SHX" text feature.
So there is still only one solution - use third party PDF viewer to view PDF files, created in AutoCAD.
I use PDF Expert application, which I like more then Acrobat reader.

Maxim

Thanx Maxim!
I’ve tried PDFPen but it has a related issue - all those characters get framed.
What I don’t understand is why Apple don’t fix it. They obviously know how. Finder’s Quicklook is OK, and Preview was working fine in previous OSXs.
This sucks!
Thomas
