If you are using the MAC version, this is the correct forum.

AutoCAD is not the best choice to create organic shapes like trees and branches: but there are many 'free' and not-so-free blocks and libraries already created that you might benefit from, try a google search for these.

Tried lots of Google searches but to no avail. First question on the google blocks (I assume you mean 3D objects when you say this), is how do I import them into AutoCAD? When I import the wire frames nothing happens, the work seems to be compelte but the objects are not there.

Secondly I have had a look at tapering tubes to be able to get branch like formations. The way I go about this is :

1) Create a curve line

2) Create a circle

3) Sweep the circle onto the line

4) modify -> solid editing -> taper

5) Select Faces by clicking on the new tube (all faces select). Press enter to accept selection.
6) Specify base point: I click on the centre of the one side of the tube.

7) Specify another point along the axis of tapering: Not sure what this is supposed to be but clicking on the centre of the tube

8) Specifiy the tape angle: Needs to be between -90 and 90. Eneter a random number

Modeling Operation Error:
could not taper surface as requested

What am I doing wrong? Dammit just want to make a branch

Hi,

I think in your case it is better to use LOFT command:
- create spline (or polyline) to use it as a path for loft
- create two circles on the end points of the path - align them perpendicular to the path at this points,
- start LOFT command and select first and second circle, than hit Return two times and select "path" option,

Maxim

That is perfect! I have my first branch.

What would be the best way to smooth the objects into each other as the edges are rather rough?

You can try to convert 3D Solids to Mesh objects with MESHSMOOTHMORE command and apply different smooth levels.

Maxim
