Reposted with a more appropriate subject:

I've added a hatch pattern to the acadlt.pat file in the folder: User/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/roaming/AutoCAD 2013/R19.0/enu/Support, but AutoCad doesn't recognize it. This is the part that I added with blank lines before and after it:

;; <- Begin mzamasonry ->
;; MZA masonry elevation
*mzamasonry, MZA masonry
0, 0,0, 0,8
;; <-End mzamasonry ->
;;

The other custom patterns that I've added over the years are recognized, but not this new one. It's obviously a simple pattern with work arounds, but does anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks.

Hi,

It all depends on the value of MEASUREMENT System Variable.

If it is 1, than AutoCAD uses acadltiso.pat file to load Hatch patterns definitions

If it is 0, than AutoCAD uses acadlt.pat file to load Hatch patterns definitions

If you added custom hatch definition to acadlt.pat file, than you can see your custom pattern only in the drawings where MEASUREMENT=0.

If you are using metric drawings, you need to add your custom pattern definition to acadltiso.pat file.

Measurement = 0. Still doesn't recognize the new pattern. I added it to the middle of the acadlt.pat file, does that make any difference?

After changing MEASUREMENT system variable you need to reopen the drawing.

When I tested your pattern, I added it to the end of acadlt.pat file:

*ZIGZAG, Staircase effect
0, 0,0, .125,.125, .125,-.125
90, .125,0, .125,.125, .125,-.125
;;
;; User Defined Hatch Patterns
;; Add any hatch patterns that you define to this section of
;; the file to ensure that they migrate properly when
;; upgrading to a future AutoCAD version. If duplicate hatch
;; patterns are found in this file, items in the User Defined
;; Hatch Patterns section take precedence over patterns that
;; appear earlier in the file.
;;
;; <- Begin mzamasonry ->
;; MZA masonry elevation
*mzamasonry, MZA masonry
0, 0,0, 0,8
;; <-End mzamasonry ->
;;

What if you will create new drawing from acadlt.dwt template? Can you see your pattern in it?

The Measurement = 0 was the original setting, and didn't need to be changed.

I was able to use the new hatch pattern in a new drawing started from acadlt.dwt. I copied and pasted the hatch into the previous drawing that I had been working on hoping to force the pattern to be recognized, but it still isn't. Bizarre.

You can try to create individual PAT file for your custom hatch and put it to the same folder where there is acadlt.pat.
Such pattern files are not depend on MEASUREMENT sys various.

Maxim

That worked. I gave it a different name as a separate .PAT file and tried it in an older .DWG file and both patterns are recognized in that drawing. But only the separate .PAT file pattern was recognized in the my most recent .DWG that started this whole conversation. Still bizarre. Thanks for all your help.

One last question (that I think I know the answer to by trial and error), can the values in the .PAT files be in fractions? i.e. 8/3 inches for a standard brick course? I think it most be in decimal form?
