I'm here trying to find out how to make something Glow in 3dsmax 2020.

So far I read that you should use a 3rd party software to achieve this.

Please somebody tell me this is Not true.

And how one should go about Glows in ART Renderer.

I will continue to check!

So much for Forums!!

This is typically done in "post", through compositing both the image and additional information. Not everything is done solely in one program in a single render output.

You can use Physical Material->Emission parameter to make objects Glow. The benefit over a compositing effect is that the object really emits light into the scene.

With Arnold you can also look into Mesh Lights+Emission from Physical Material or Arnold Standard surface.

This is the 'problem' with Physical Based Renderer:

This isn`t just a effect but the 'real deal'. The object is turned into a light source(using real light intensity) that lights the scene.

If you are after a stylized post effect, then indeed you have to look into a compositing solution. I also had some success in the past using falloff-map on a hull surrounding the object.

Just add a volume material to the scene and any light will glow into the atmosphere. You can use animated 3d noises to control thickness, density and so on.

And it will render very fast.

This way you can build all effects into your scene and have no need for post.
