We would need more detail to be able to figure out what's going on:

Does it crash when you do something specific (i.e. do a render, use a tool, etc.)?

If it seems somewhat random, check your RAM usage in the Windows Task manager. If it's hovering around 90% then the crashing might be due not having enough RAM for that particular scene

When it does crash, do you get a CER (Customer Error Report)? If yes, enter your email address and submit it to Autodesk. PM me the email address you used and I'll check the report to see if it sheds any light on the crash

Do you get any other error messages that might be of help?

Hi all. I just tried using 3dsmax 2021 and still under the free 30 day trial period. Eventually I will have to purchase monthly subscription as I am already committed to my client to deliver my project in '21 version. It's the first time I have tried using Arnold renderer and it's always crashing... I have been a mental ray renderer for the longest time and since the Industry will have to upgrade to the latest technology (as 3dsmax no longer supports mental ray) I dont have a clue to troubleshoot the crashing. Any help from the community will be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi and thanks for your reply.

let me change my statement. It didnt really crash... rather it doesnt continue the rendering in Arnold... couldnt even finish the first pass but no error report... I hope that sheds a bit of light. Thank you!

Could it be because of the last render message before the render ended prematurely? how can I identify that element so I can fix the issue? Will appreciate your help Mr. Ben Bisares!
