Try selecting all the copies then add a Substitute modifier, click the three dots next to Pick Scene Object and then select the master in the Select Substitute Object dialog box and then click select. The copies will be replaced by the master. Test the results by changing one instance of the master, the others should change.

I created some detailed tracks for a tank I'm modelling. Originally each track was made up of 30+ pieces all instanced to one master piece of track - easy to go in and make alterations.

It seems at some point I've managed to turn them all into individual objects - is there an easy way to make them all instanced again?

I rather not have to copy/instance them all and then position them all again! I'm sure there's a way....
