Max 2024 Vertex chamfer crash

I'm having this problem a lot - I do tend to do a lot of chamfering, but the problem is with vertex chamfering in editable poly mode.

If I have been doing a lot of work on an element, chamfering a vertex will result in a complete crash with Max offering to save a backup - the restore file is usually completely corrupted with hundreds of edges and vertices spiderwebbing out from the mesh.

I think this is due to a previous chamfer making a 'pile' of vertices in one position and Max doesn't seem to like chamfering more than three vertices at one time, even though only one is selected this time.

I CAN NOT WAIT for this to be fixed, chamfering vertices is a minefield, it is a proper thorn in my side.

I've tested it and it seems to be related to a certain vertex number in this case. If you delete another vertex on the mesh, it won't crash on the vertex you are chamfering?

Where is the Beta Forum by the way, not aware it even existed.

Still here in Max 2025, five years later still.

At least the recovery file leaves the scene intact 😭
