Hi there,

I am working with an existing project I bought to practice with. I have put various files where they need to go and most of it works. I would like to know what the FBX file is and where do I put it? Generally any other advice you can give to get started on playing around with a model. I am a complete newbie as I am an engineering student and want to model a concept as I do not have the funds to pay someone to do it for me.

Hello there!

FBX is a format for importing and exporting digital content - a FBX file would need to be imported into Max - Importing FBX Files into 3DS Max - if you purchased a model or project it may come in multiple formats to ensure compatibility. If you have already loaded your project you may not need the FBX version - tell us more about the project and what files came with it.

As far as becoming familiar with Max nothing beats doing some basic tutorials. There are literally hundreds of them on the web that can help you understand the UI, etc.... As you create your concept you can post specific questions and get help with the modeling.

Good luck!

Daf
